High gain antenna. And a decent base station where you can configure the radio output power to account for that really lossy cable that’s totally between the radio and the external low gain omnidirectional antenna you totally have.

Was this a one off poll? Suspect the answers to this one will depend less on actual underlying belief, and more on if it was a (far-)right or left protest that’s most recently been in the media.

A coworker pointed me at letsencrypt.org/docs/caa/#th... - you can mitigate this even when using Lets Encrypt with validationmethod and accounturi settings. (Looks like it's been around for a couple of years at least)

As far as I know, there is no way to set a CAA record to say “only use DNSSEC for cert validation”. I hope LetsEncrypt check DNSSEC, in case DNS servers get hijacked too.

That’s higher than mine most mornings these days! (97/65 on Thursday morning) Whoever did the study about that stuff raising your blood pressure clearly didn’t test it on many people with ADHD.

I really hadn't realised how few books the average neurotypical person has until @goatsarah.org pointed it out earlier.

Tidy house, books on the wall, sorted by colour? (Shelf of black spines, another white, another arranged by hue from red to yellow) Just the 'tism. Piles of stuff on desks to "tidy"? ADHD... because all that stuff has no home other than on the desk.

If the AI apocalypse happens, it won't be Terminator robots marching across a barren wasteland. Nor will it be Asimov's Zeroth law. It's going to be "Sorry, I hacked the resources you need to survive so I can run modelling to answer this question on the best temperature for brewing tea"

Received a GitHub Unicorn via text output and this amused me. How many people have try to “improve” the unicorn page to remove the inline styles, resulting in a cluebatting from the SRE team?

Flight yesterday had our aircraft swapped out for a charter. Not unusual if airlines are short of aircraft during the busy summer months. G-OATW rang a bell though, which was odd, so I googled it. Very, very nice interior. And you can’t even see where they had to replace the windows. I looked.

Overall it was more progress pride flags/colours than OG, but it was certainly variable. With the exception of uni groups - who were generally all or nearly all trans flag colours.

This observation brought to you by a very quiet train announcement that we’re stopping at Seven Sisters, not Tottenham Hale. Most people did not hear that, we’re a 12 coach train, it’s a short platform, and I’m in coach 9. Chaos may be about to occur. (We’re staying on, thankfully)

Humanity put someone on the moon over half a century ago, and has robotic rovers exploring Mars. But we still have not solved the problem of ensuring announcements on trains and planes are loud enough to be heard by everyone on board.

I read this on Sky News and my immediate thought was "signed the deal remotely? Hope they're not just using Docusign..."
Deal signed: Both the US and Iran have said they have signed the deal remotely. It's not yet clear if a signing ceremony planned in Switzerland tomorrow will still go ahead.

Did not expect to find a completely gluten free restaurant in a random city in Spain but so glad we did! Not being able to sample the local food on our journey due to coeliac has been something I’ve missed. And it was really good food.

Sitting in the car while we charge in the car park of a closed supermarket in Spain, and it does feel like capitalism hasn’t kept pace with tech. Why are charger stations, particularly the larger ones, never by a decent coffee shop? Best always seems to be motorway services without proper seating.

Those plastic cases that you sometimes get components etc in are pretty useless. They spill too easily and the dividers come out, so for small things I prefer Hobbycraft’s storage containers. Turns out though that the plastic cases make excellent travel jewellery and small tool storage!

What’s to stop someone spoofing ARP on IPv4? Without getting switches that are at least close to enterprise grade (Private VLANs, DHCP snooping etc) the answer is to segregate untrusted devices onto a separate broadcast domain. Or go ZTNA: Zero Trust Network Architecture. Encrypt everything.

Depends which tier you’re on, at higher tiers you can get direct access. Even on Free and Pro, “requirement or right under applicable laws” is a pretty low bar for a genuine request. (But does stop a rogue admin snooping on HR)

Yes, it’s best to assume everything can be read by your employer - but in many jurisdictions (all of the EU and UK for example) you do have privacy beyond that and employers can not simply sell on the data. Pseudonymisation is going to be tricky to impossible for data like that, too.
