Today marks six months since we lost our cat Bubble. I really disliked cats before he came into my life in 2021, and it took about 24 hours for me to fall head over heels in love. I’m currently drafting a story idea about him because he was so funny and so full of personality 🤍

if you’re an artist who ever thought “what’s the point? The world is Hell and I should do something that matters instead” even in an ICE detention center people will treat art as sacred, seek it out, and find joy and comfort in it. You aren’t making art, you’re making hope.

On her first day in the facility, Becky asked for a scrap of paper and a pen, and began to draw the inmates on the table next to her. She was immediately inundated with portrait requests. A Mexican woman called Lopez, who had a photo of her children stored on one of the iPads, told Becky she would buy her some paper and colouring pencils from the commissary if Becky drew her kids. She soon became the dorm’s unofficial artist-in-residence, with women huddling around the dirty mirrors to make themselves look presentable before they sat for her. They would decorate their cells with Becky’s drawings, or send them to their families. Lopez declared herself Becky’s manager. “She kept saying, ‘Becky, you need to ask for stuff in exchange. Ask for popcorn.’ And I’d be like, ‘Lopez, I don’t need anything.’ I thought, I’m here briefly, you’re stuck here a long time. I’m not going to take your food away from you.”

Starting a new project combing my love of food and illustration, and celebrating all the great things I’ve eaten in the past month. Here’s January 🧡 #illustration #food

- Chiu chow chilli oil on rice, noodles, and pretty much anything.

- The best Dim Sum from Noodle Inn, Sheffield. A regular pre match staple before heading to Bramall Lane. The steamed dumplings and the crispy prawn rolls are to die for 🫶🏼

- Italian hot sauce bought for me by my brother after I had it for the first time at Delilah’s in Nottingham. A perfect topping to my favourite breakfast of eggs and avocado.

- My favourite breakfast in London from Le Swine. Living 10 minutes away from here is the ultimate exercise in willpower

- Cooking lots of Thai curries, Japanese salmon dishes, and Korean rice bowls, and adding tonnes of lime to all of them.

- Leeks in all forms - cheesy, pan fried, roasted, my favourite veg side right now.

- Eating overpriced out of season tomatoes doused in balsamic and salt, then slow roasted in the oven.

- Olives, olives and more olives.
