right!! Context!! Ilya isn't a stupid person! And yes, he might not know what "cahoots" is but he MOST CERTAINLY knows "laboratory" and "experiment" (I do partially blame Rachel Reid, though....she also is very stupid about that stuff.)

dude, you have no idea, it's SOOOOO BAAAAD I think it's probably because there's this sense among English speakers that long words = hard words, but that is so not the case in Russian?? At ALL?? MOST WORDS ARE ACTUALLY LONG and that's NORMAL & also COMMON ROOTS EXIST my god people are stupid

Yep! AND it’s a very English-centric view on languages anyway - Russian words are MUCH LONGER and there’s no concept of a “10 dollar word” or anything like that, like, long versus short. So everything about it is STUPID and uneducated. And annoying. The end.

In Russian, laboratory is...laboratoria. Experiment is......wait for it.....experiment. Please for the love of god look these words up before you assume Ilya wouldn't know them.

a friend shared a screenshot of an hr fic with me & it's been haunting me ever since... begging hr fic writers to understand how languages work. Ilya would ABSOLUTELY KNOW what the words "experiment" and "laboratory" are. Long English words =/= incomprehensible to foreigners! They're often THE SAME
