Y'all ever feel paranoid? I'm in the process of making all my devices login flow this: 1. Unlock hardware side SSD encryption at BIOS level with primary password 2. Present physical security key 3. Unlock OS level encryption with second password 4. Unlock account based software with biometrics

"Everything is a web app nowadays" This has unironically led to me having ONLY Vivaldi open while using my PC outside of working / gaming. BSKY, X, Fedi, Matrix, Telegram, Discord, Email, all are browser tabs. We have really reached a point where non-browser-OS' are only there to run a browser LOL

Sure would've been better, lots of my tone was from a dislike for these services and strong opinions on privacy. If I would've intended this for the eyes of more than my random little internet bubble I'd have worded it nicer. But for my audience, this is my tone, I didn't tag them

120

👾 𝓕𝔂𝓷𝓷𝓵𝓮𝔂 💜 @zerv.al · 23/09/2026

There's the fine difference and why I continue doing these little PDS gimmicks when I see a new service pop up.

👾 𝓕𝔂𝓷𝓷𝓵𝓮𝔂 💜 @zerv.al · 23/09/2026

"homelab" with actual machines in datacenters and own IP space + ASN (201445 Zerval Network LLC) But besides that yes I know decentralized networks do a lot of external calls, but the normal frontends of BSKY and Masto all proxy over the account server, to mask the user from hostile externals

👾 𝓕𝔂𝓷𝓷𝓵𝓮𝔂 💜 @zerv.al · 23/09/2026

Awww look the little pussy blocked me <3 Go cry in a corner

170

👾 𝓕𝔂𝓷𝓷𝓵𝓮𝔂 💜 @zerv.al · 23/09/2026

You don't need to tell me how IPs work I own an ISP ;) IP-location is essentially garbage, but it can if you are actively trying to run OSINT against someone, be used to confirm data.

000

👾 𝓕𝔂𝓷𝓷𝓵𝓮𝔂 💜 @zerv.al · 23/09/2026

You browser the internet and expose your IP everywhere yes, I know I own a fucking ISP man xD The issue I take is that skytrace doesn't -ask- before making your browser access endpoints that are not it's own or known trusted (eg: bsky) Which is what I take issue with in terms of safety

110

👾 𝓕𝔂𝓷𝓷𝓵𝓮𝔂 💜 @zerv.al · 23/09/2026

Making random peoples browsers request potentially arbitrary and hostile endpoints is not what you should do

040

👾 𝓕𝔂𝓷𝓷𝓵𝓮𝔂 💜 @zerv.al · 23/09/2026

In gettings those screenshots to "disprove my point" you've demonstrated my system works. If anyone looks me up on skytrace, you get logged to a discord channel and are none the wiser if I didn't rub it in your face. You built a covert ip-grabber for everyone that knows how to weaponize it

150

👾 𝓕𝔂𝓷𝓷𝓵𝓮𝔂 💜 @zerv.al · 23/09/2026

Also fun tailscale name with narwhal-snapper, that was a good roll on the randomization

140

👾 𝓕𝔂𝓷𝓷𝓵𝓮𝔂 💜 @zerv.al · 23/09/2026

You are actively making users, send their IP to possibly hostile endpoints that are not bluesky owned without ever notifying the user you are doing it. Welcome to creating a site that can be used to ipgrab someone from a semi trusted domain. I send this to a discord webhook on hit.

👾 𝓕𝔂𝓷𝓷𝓵𝓮𝔂 💜 @zerv.al · 23/09/2026

Anyone got that "to be continued" music ready? SkyTrace has the same massively idiotic design, who codes these things? They feel like they are made by a vibecoding 5 y.o.

150

👾 𝓕𝔂𝓷𝓷𝓵𝓮𝔂 💜 @zerv.al · 23/09/2026

Bluesky really needs to add "X many people on this list" to their UI, because I really want to stop running a script to iterate over every entry each time I want to know
