@troed There definitely is a pattern. New attacks every hour. What is nginx throttling exactly? How doesn't it block legitimate requests? Does a similar mechanism exist in Apache ? (that's what I'm using)

Vale Margaret Hamilton. She was a Software Engineer. She was the _first_ Software Engineer because she defined the term, Software Engineering: "When I first came up with the term, no one had heard of it before, at least in our world. It was an ongoing joke for a […] [Original post on aus.social]
A B&W photo of a person standing next to a stack of printed paper as high as the top of their head. This is Margaret Hamilton, at work as a Software Engineer and the leader of a team of extremely specialised programmers who worked for NASA. The photo was taken in 1969, and it shows a physical form if her work since she joined the Apollo project in 1965 (she joined at the age of 29 by my calculation). My interpretation of the expression on her face is a mix of pride and mild amusement. She has glasses, long, straight hair, and neat office attire. Margaret Hamilton has her hands placed gently on the stack of printouts to keep it all balanced upright. The pages appear to be arranged in bundles, ranging from 8-10 centimetres thick, to 20cm thick or more. The resulting stack of printouts is physically impressive for being an unusual feat, and it represents something even more impressive: it's the printed form of the source-code she and the team she led wrote for the NASA Apollo project. Their software ran on the Apollo Guidance Computer that was that on board each Apollo command module and Apollo Lunar Module. The Apollo Guidance Computer onboard the Eagle was an essential flight instrument for Neil Armstrong when he piloted the craft to land on the surface of the moon.

@gunstick @troed So the problem is not AI, it's capitalism. They use AI for their own profit against you, with no regard to resource consumption and global warming, but this doesn't mean AI is a bad thing in itself. It's just that it's in the wrong hands.

I still lurk on the r/London subreddit and came across this hilarious piece of activist art which turns a bin into a "smart glasses amnesty bin" that apparently is just across the Ray Ban store. 💅 www.reddit.com/r/london/comments/1w… #pervertglasses
A bin with some ad busting layover stuck to it. Under the ray ban and Meta logo it reads "smart glasses amnesty bin" next to a pictogram of a person throwing the glasses into a bin.

Further text reads: Wearing hidden camera glasses massively increases the likelihood of people thinking you're a nonce

@troed My main concern is on the economic aspect. LLMs importance mostly come from the big tech industry that invested thousands of billion dollars in them, only to earn much less than 10% of that in revenue. There is no way they can achieve break-even any soon. Most of the effort to get some […]

@troed I am a developer and I do believe LLMs are useful when used correctly, mostly when you still understand what you are doing with it. The discomfort I'm having with LLMs is rather on the political and societal aspect. Big tech companies want us to use it for any purpose, all the time, and […]
