Done with SPX, back to the world I left behind for 95 lovely hours

Checked in & ready for #spx. Only brought the essentials in- there's more board games in the car ;)
A hotel room. The TV is split between two windows from the laptop, the volunteer sheet & the google calendar it's all getting created on.

Assorted other creature comforts abound

whereidlive.com/s/d8gxsszc Huge fan of avoiding the interior, ig (most of the Canadian border was during one long car trip we took when I was 6, it's not like I have any deep memories of Idaho) Only three more states and I'll have the whole border zone

It's annoying when you get a new phone and I have to redo all the nonsense I had on the old one. New launcher, disable Bixby, turn off keyboard sounds, relogin to all my apps, etc But the worst, fully, is the context menu. There's always something new, and now it's some fuckin THING
The ai sparkles are in my menu

Thanks for being born; I put a crab pin on my collar to compensate for waking up early
I think it's part of a set from Dershing Helmer? It's a perfectly iconic crab pin on a black button-up shirt's collar on a guy

Didn't get it all finished - turns out raw ambition isn't the only ingredient needed for something finished - but I have more than I had before. Next time, I'm not going to try to put video game mechanics in my TTRPG dungeon 😅

Thanks for the direct cite; it was an interesting read, although it wasn't persuasive. This survey seems to be spending all its time saying "this is almost as good as people," but many of its studies are failing to display knowledge that is distinguishable from statistical memorization.
"We ought to consider the possibility that they simply rely on recognizing shallow statistical patterns observed in their enormous training data"

There's a bit in the essay about discounting metaphysical mysteriousness, but it's the exact thing that's being argued! This bit here, "ANNs can use algorithms, therefore we need to know which ones they use," assumes it matters, but why would it? 9/10
"do ANNs use algorithms? Yes" followed by "ANNs can implement any algorithm"

do you ever think about why some words seem like they come from the characters on the page, and others are placed on signs?
A sign says "you have to ask for what you want, not for what you think other people want"

Kinda, but much smaller scale: - thumb is left-right is X because that's the direction it goes in graphs - pointer is forward-backward is Z because z is the last letter, at the back of the alphabet - palm is up/down is Y because "wait, WHY would you describe a palm as 'pointing' anywhere?"

Got a normal, 8.5x11 sketchbook for the first time, and it's crazy how much better it feels to sketch things in a space that doesn't fit in my pocket. Some times tiny changes make the difference - why not believe that we can find small differences like that for everything?

@cadaverdaddyo.bsky.social hey, re: your smut distribution network/idea, I have ~100 1gb flash drives (leftover from when I taught highschool CS). It's def less economic than just emailing zip files, but if you want 95 of em I'll send them to you for one loaded up in return
Almost 100 flash drives, probably closer to 95, in a box lid that's been reinforced by red duct tape
