Now that @Pikapods offers @silverbulletmd 2.11 with multi-user, multi-space, revisions and collaboration support, it’s probably the smoothest #silverbullet deployment experience available. Probably you can deploy this in < 1 minute. At a ~$2/month cost (and you get $5 credit to start).

Electron desktop version: Some testing help
TL;DR: I have experimental builds of SilverBullet+ using Electron hoping for better performance and a better Linux experience, I would really appreciate people to download test it out for a bit, see if you run into any issues and how it performs for you: (downloads under the edge section). The longer version In May I launched the first version of SilverBullet+, the desktop version of SilverBullet: It was proudly built on Tauri instead of the, much more common Electron framework that pract...

The Austrian English accent is objectively the best English accent. Anecdotal yet definite proof: Arnold Szwarzenegger (rewatching Terminator II right now), also: Toto Wolff.

A whole bunch of collaboration features are landing in @silverbulletmd soon: better concurrent edit merging, built in revision support (git backed), @ mentions, comments. This is going to be quite something. When fully ironed out in a few releases, probably reason to bump to 3.0.

I assume that if I were to switch to my own #selfhosted #GotoSocial instance my hashtag subscriptions would essentially stop working, right? Because they pull from the firehose feed of the server you’re on, which would be mine, which means it’s effectively quiet? If so, any way around that?

All online writing feels like AI writing now, which is very distracting because I’m constantly asking: was this written, merely enhanced or 100% produced with AI?

The move to #homeassistant is also another step away from HomeKit, which means less lock in to the Apple ecosystem, which I’m also happy about. This will a possible switch away from iPhones at some point a little easier.

Just officially replaced a whole slew of hacks with a nice and clean @homeassistant set of dashboards. It’s objectively a huge improvement and enormous simplification. It is also… a change. As a result, my wife’s enthusiasm on this upgrade is very underwhelming.

My current #selfhosted stack, will update this as I go along: notes.zef.pub/self-hosted-stack #selfhosting
notes.zef.pub
Self Hosted Stack
Here’s my current self hosting stack. # Hardware * 2x Raspberry Pi 4b at home * 1x Hetzner cloud VM (smallest instance: ~3 euro/month) * QNAP NAS: not necessarily recommending my model, but it’s there and it works (slowly). # Software * Pangolin (Hetzner VM): to front all my self-hosted services on subdomains on a domain I own for this purpose, so I don’t need VPN software installed anywhere. Pangolin handles: * Networking (using Wireguard under the hood) with my home servers * Authentication * Arcane: docker and docker compose web UI. Pretty sleek, although still trialing this. Used dockge before. * SilverBullet: for note taking (of course) * Jellyfin: for media streaming owned media from my NAS * Homebridge: exposing some smart home devices via HomeKit (we’re an Apple/HomeKit household) * Backrest: to manage automatic backups of part of my NAS-based storage using restic (backing up to Backblaze B2) * linkding: bookmark manager * miniflux: RSS feed reader * Immich: image and video backup and viewer. Not actively using right now.
