Two rare items: Windows 95c (OSR 2.5) and vanilla Windows 98 (first edition)... and, also, they're American discs; I don't mind not having their boxes, because the discs are what I'm interested in - the only way I can be sure to have clean discs is to have genuine discs.

PS. Notice how it doesn't say "Do not make illegal copies of this disc" on this particular version - that should've been a subtle hint; they've removed important setup files but they've left lots of nonsense, because the CD is still almost full... just not and to actually install Windows.

All right, so this specific version is not actually able to install Windows at all, and it's only usable to install optional components when asked for a CD on an all ready working Windows system (I'm assuming only of the same operating system release); there's no setup.exe in the win95 directory.

It turns out some versions of Windows 95/98 out there were marked as "companion"; in the case of the one I now own, it seems to be part of a dual Windows-Office student bundle; any other possible cases?

Trying out FreeDOS 1.4 on my 486; I see they're aware LABEL.COM has a bug and doesn't actually label volumes, and they've included a file named "_LABEL.EXE"... or was it actually intended as a feature? I see no situation where you wouldn't actually want to modify the label of a FAT16/32 volume.

Step 5: Now you can install Windows 95 from CD; to avoid having to do all these steps again, you will need to manually copy the drivers (MSXDEX.EXE, etc.) to the Win95 Startup Disk and edit Autoexec.bat and Config.sys, adding the lines which the driver disk added when you installed the drivers.

Step 4: Remove the CD-ROM drivers disk and restart your computer one more time; the last message might say which drive letter the CD-ROM drive has - usually D; insert the CD in the CD-ROM drive, type "D:SETUP" and press Enter.

I got 8 out of 10 in my exam because I didn't understand how frames worked - I'm not entirely sure, maybe just Word used that feature; Office 97 moved the entire text wrapping settings in the object properties... but I searched for the damn frames option and never found it. In my defence, Microsoft Office for Windows 95 did things a little bit differently from its successor, MS Office 97; I got Office 97 at home some time later, and it didn't need frames added to objects in order to enable text wrapping anymore; this little thing haunted me ever since.

After 28 years, I finally pass another sort of rite of passage: in 1998, when my mother enrolled me to a PC and MS Word course, I didn't get maximum score in the exam; I didn't have MS Office at home and I didn't know how to use frames. I know it's a dumb thing, but I finally have closure on this.
