The “protest against the death penalty” that Neo Swee Lin and Lim Kay Siu (and others, including myself) have been charged for was this: we went to court to support a friend who’d been charged. Afterwards, we stood outside the courthouse and someone snapped some photos. Then we left. That’s it.

Which have been fed a steady diet of shitty AI-apocalypse sci-fi. And these kind of AIs will start behaving like mad cruel gods because "mad cruel god" is statistically the most probable result in their data sets. Effectively: the AI engineer AutoCorrect us to the end of the world.

If we get an AI apocalypse it'll be because the AI engineers never manage to build an AGI / actual reasoning sentience. They only get to the LLMs we have now: basically brute-force data parsers. Which give answers based on the statistically most probable results in their data sets.

The Other must be feared and hated. If weak, I must suppress it; if inevitable, I must serve it. If the Other acquires power and privilege it will do terrible things. Because that is what I do with power and privilege. This is logical (because I cannot imagine anybody acting differently.)

When I first heard about Roko's Basilisk, I thought it sounded like something out of White Guilt. Has anybody else made this association? Ie: the Other is by definition vengeful and malicious, we must behave according to this ironclad assumption.
