the other thing is that this is a totally incoherent and arbitrary standard for deciding who has rights and who doesn't. you could say the same, for instance, of alito's vision of inviolate "religious liberty" or expansive gun rights.

I wrote about the Manchester City scandal as a textbook case of sportswashing in plain sight. In our whipsaw age of impunity, some potential accountability—if not comeuppance—for Manchester City is conspicuously refreshing. For @gqmagazine.bsky.social www.gq.com/story/manche...

This should be so obvious that it doesn’t need to be said, but given what kind of weekend it’s been on here, apparently it does: If you don’t want old rapists running the world, in office, in the board room, making decisions for all of us get comfortable with “ruining” young rapists’ lives

So much of the "quit wasting time and money on humanities programs" comes from dudes with humanities degrees from the Ivies. They get to have a broad, liberal, meaningful education, but it's narrow, lifeless career prep for the rest of y'all.

Let's stop using anodyne labels like "the immigration debate" or "controversy over migrants" and start referring to things accurately. "Expelling children who, by law, are entitled to remain in the country" or "imprisoning toddlers in concentration camps" or "pogrom"

This is an underappreciated point that extends far beyond Amish country. A lack of health insurance, lack of/inconsistent access to technology, and/or financial precarity are huge barriers to accessing medical services. I didn't go to a doctor for five years when I worked in kitchens as a result.

I haven't really been much of an MLB fan as an adult, but I really want to see the Brewers win it all finally this year. My dad loved the team. He was a kid when they came to Milwaukee. They lost the 1982 Series right before I was born. A maiden title would be a fitting tribute to a lifelong fan.

Two months since Lady passed. Just got home from a long walk with a friend in one of Lady's favorite old haunts. We wandered randomly along the trails, got lost, thought we'd picked the trail back up, got spit onto the road, and ended up going much longer than expected. Lady would've loved it.

I cut my hair after Lady passed. I was happy with it in the moment, and I don't regret doing it, as it was basically in an irreparable state after a fortnight focused on the pup. But now every time I look in the mirror it is a reminder that she is gone. That part I hate.

Another moment when sports is useful, when it gets right at the truth of things. People want so damn badly to move on from reports of harm, from having to even think about the harm that men have done to women. Playing well in a game allows that. It's crude, yes, but it's common. ANYTHING to move on.

Palantir shifting from hiring only "Ivy or Ivy-equivalent" degrees to hiring only out of high school is an admission that "training" and "talent" were never factors at all. They were looking for packaging & prestige, and now they're looking for ignorance & impressionability.
Tech companies launching their own programs to train grads because they ‘can’t rely’ on Ivy Leagues
By Lydia Moynihan
Published Oct. 1, 2026, 6:00 a.m. ETAs the university system increasingly becomes a wildly expensive bastion of anti-Western sentiment, key figures in Silicon Valley are betting on alternatives to higher education. They argue that even the Ivy League is no longer producing the best candidates — nor are they even accepting some of the most qualified students.

“It used to be the case that you could rely on somebody who went to an Ivy or Ivy-equivalent to be top notch,” said Jordan Hirsch, who runs Palantir’s semester-long intensive Meritocracy Fellowship, which accepts high school graduates.“But that’s not the case anymore… we suspected that there was a lot of talent being missed.”

Nationality is not a fixed marker. We may be born in a particular nation-state, but nationality is not encoded in our physical forms. Conflating national identity with ethnicity and race is a dangerous, deluded farce.
