Peter Moore @zatoichi26.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Hope this isn’t too sappy but.. I often think about how gardening parallels life. Last winter my witchhazel, which was thin and “just hanging on”, was eaten within 6” of the ground by deer. Now it’s bushy and thriving. I think sometimes we need to come out of adversity to thrive. #nativeplants 010

Peter Moore @zatoichi26.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Rouge National Urban Park / Little Rouge River. The grey river bottom is a regional deposit of hard clay laid down in the ancient glacial Lake Peel, created between the front lobe of the ice sheet and the Niagara Escarpment about 12,000 years ago. The Rouge and Little Rouge Rivers cut thru it. 010
Peter Moore @zatoichi26.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Immediately after this photo of blue flag iris seeds I knocked them all over the floor and after picking them up they’re now mixed with an insane amount of dog hair which might actually make them rabbit and deer resistant 🤔 #nativeplants #gardensky 050

Peter Moore @zatoichi26.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Is it normal for someone to: 1) Learn about an Ohio Buckeye tree on a city boulevard on a small street in a borough of their city via social media 2) Travel there after work 3) Prepare what to say if the owners look at you weirdly 4) Harvest nuts 5) Plant said nuts? (asking for a friend) 000
Peter Moore @zatoichi26.bsky.social · 13/09/2026On the hike I posted about yesterday, I gathered a bunch of berries to germinate next spring for my #nativeplants garden: false Solomon’s seal, blue cohosh, maple leaf vibernum and doll’s eye. Sustainably, I think, as I took less than 1% of what was there. 🌱 140
Peter Moore @zatoichi26.bsky.social · 12/09/2026West Duffins Creek headwaters on a trail today. 😀 The Oakridges Moraine, above Toronto, was created 15,000 years ago by 2 glacial lobes pushing vast quantities of glacial till together. Now it is a “rainbarrel” supplying a billion litres of water a day to tributaries flowing into Lake Ontario. 041

Peter Moore @zatoichi26.bsky.social · 18/08/2026I germinated this red oak about 8 years ago from an acorn and it’s now over my head - reaching for the ☀️. Peter Moore @zatoichi26.bsky.social · 08/08/2026We had our roof shingles replaced and now the rain barrel water smells like tar or hydrocarbons 😢 My theory is my native gardens and their healthy bacteria will work to treat / remediate it, rather than the roof water going right up storm drain. #gardensky #nativeplants 130

Peter Moore @zatoichi26.bsky.social · 26/07/2026Something different.. was on a lake fishing with my son in Muskoka this weekend, we wondered what the heck this basketball sized gelatinous mass was, just under the water.
