I feel like I’ve missed out on a whole year of good music by not being subscribed to Spotify. They should pay artists more, but damn their discoverability algorithms are on fire 🔥

A rock I found. In my defense, it's a very nice rock. It's smooth on one side, and is a nice colour.

Zan Baldwin @zanbaldwin.com · 25/08/2026

You know when you say a word over and over and over again until it sounds weird and completely detached from its original meaning?

Meme containing some weird anime guy looking at the word "slaps" (represented by a butterfly) asking "Am I Gen Z now?"

Zan Baldwin @zanbaldwin.com · 23/08/2026

I know I'm years late to the party, but Chapelle Roan's music fucking slaps

Zan Baldwin @zanbaldwin.com · 23/08/2026

I have come to apologize for not reading the book. I have read 4 other books as a way of procrastinating the book I was supposed to read. I don't know why but my brain just cannot get into TPotOT 😭

It’s been several hours now and I’m thinking about the main-on-end credits more than the film itself. What have I become?

Zan Baldwin @zanbaldwin.com · 05/08/2026

Saw the new Spiderman film today and I haven’t seen anyone talk about how aesthetically pleasing and well-designed the end credits are. I’ve never really paid attention to that before, but damn.

AI can do so so much good in the world, but it's being used to widen the poverty gap instead of doing good. AI isn't the problem, capitalism is the problem.

Zan Baldwin @zanbaldwin.com · 03/08/2026

I’m still trying to get my brain to comply. I haven’t read the book, but I’ve read a fic based on the book so I vaguely know what’s going to happen and it sucks all the fun out of it ☹️

Zan Baldwin @zanbaldwin.com · 24/07/2026

Post doesn't contain an AO3 link. Seems suspicious to me 🤔

Zan Baldwin @zanbaldwin.com · 20/07/2026

Stargate Atlantis in 2014. Then The 100, after the TV show started getting weird. Then COVID hit, and the "occasional story" slowly started spiraling out of control into a full-blown habit 😬

And I love the idea that giant-ass calipers are a basic requirement of perfumery ⚗️

Zan Baldwin @zanbaldwin.com · 10/07/2026

You're making perfume?! That is incredibly cool/ridiculous, congrats on your era of badassness 😎

Zan Baldwin @zanbaldwin.com · 02/07/2026

I'm sorry, Stargate was my childhood. I have betrayed the fandom 😭

That was a really good talk! Now I have even more questions.

020

"Must withstand the compute power of entire political states/blocs" is not something I had considered before. Least bad option might be right 😬

Oh this makes sense now - can't create a CID from something that has two valid forms. Thanks!

Seems like a very centralized bottleneck for so-called "distributed identity". I have been going on an ATProto binge this past week, and the more I learn the more questions I have 😩

210

AND the whole "identity is cryptographically verified" is great and all, but the `createdAt` isn't part of the verification... what if the PLC directory goes rogue? What if they fudge the timestamps so the 72h grace period is over as soon as a poisoned op is submitted?

I keep getting confused about the keys: why are two different curves accepted, but only accept low-S signatures? Seems stupid to me.

Is this everything `did:*`? How deep are you going? Because...

I want to make a joke here, but I know from experience that locking yourself out of toilet access is a very bad position to be in. It's considered a big no-no in the "humans need to pee" category.

Zan Baldwin @zanbaldwin.com · 30/06/2026

I restrained myself, and only gave two suggestions.

Zan Baldwin @zanbaldwin.com · 29/06/2026

Briefly saw the three lines of monospace on the back and immediately thought you had just doxxed yourself 😬

I just wrote "nullified loser" to describe something in my code, and it took me a couple of minutes to realise that, a week ago, it would have sounded like a weird and made up term.

I'm diving deep into @atproto.com this week and I'm wearing my tinfoil hat all the way, baabyyyy!
