I do remember hearing about the BNP thing. Someone asked me about it at the time (I was never an actual Aristasian but I did visit). What I reckon - then and now - is that they would have replied to any letter they recieved in a very Miss Manners sort of way, but they would not have been very keen

I don't work in retail or hospitality so it doesn't apply. But I would certainly not put myself out for a huge corporate that pays me minimum wage: they get the hours of routine works they are paying me for and that's it. (Steal from one of my artisan small trader mates where I can see it, though

Maybe Greggs etc could pay their staff enough for them to care? It's not hard to see why staff are reluctant to confront thieves - either they don't fancy getting duffed up for minimum wage, or they sympathise with the shoplifters because they are skipping meals due to lack of money themselves.

I must give that a listen. I do remember there being a bit of scandal attached to them in the 90s...

I was going to recommend Swinella but it is... probably unsuitable for a youngster. Unless said youngster has, um, open-minded parents. It is officially Not For Under 18s as it is very explicit. Brilliant but VERY explicit.

High levels of stress, they reckon. Thorough range of tests to follow but GP says it isn't dementia, which is reassuring.

Don't know how the rest of you are doing but after another horrible day I have made a GP appointment to ask them what is wrong with my brain and if they can fix it. I lost a bit of paper. It completely dematerialised. My gears are definitely slipping.

One bit of the dayjob that I like some times more than others: slideshow-building. Fun when it's someone who lived a good long life and there's a mix of vintage photos, happy poses with the grandchildren and a few daft ones in silly hats to make people smile. Not so nice when it's babies.

You don't have to like porn to defend it. There's not even much wrong with having issues with some types of porn... but you do need to understand that the weaponised moral panics around porn are not about porn. They are about power and control and the scapegoating of those with little of either.

I have noticed this a LOT among the modern breed of bigot, particularly the christofascists and the 'free speech' defenders. They don't want equality, they want to be worshipped. It's never enough that they are allowed to say horrible things: you have to praise their 'bravery', too.

Here’s Judith Butler explaining what this movement is and always was, about five years ago.

As a fascist trend, the anti-gender movement supports ever strengthening forms of authoritarianism. Its tactics encourage state powers to intervene in university programs, to censor art and television programming, to forbid trans people their legal rights, to ban LGBTQI people from public spaces, to undermine reproductive freedom and the struggle against violence directed at women, children, and LGBTQI people. It threatens violence against those, including migrants, who have become cast as demonic forces and whose suppression or expulsion promises to restore a national order under duress.
