I'm surprised you didn't just have the sub sprite be a child node of the parent sprite and call it a day

I'll occasionally read up on some random ancient alchemy for lore and story inspiration. My game revolves around #Quintessence, which has a long real-world history. I just learned one of the early times they thought they discovered it as a "water of life" but really just discovered ethanol lol.

I still love how Thrift Shop made old hand-me-downs as cool. Also his FDT pt2 song was pretty good.

That crystal shimmering sound effect that plays when you start the game is still so magical. It still has not lost its charm

Some #gamedev progress updates: World generation is now multi-threaded and a lot smoother, even on single-thread web-builds. My UI scales off of DPI, reverses all the screen transforms, and rounds to an integer scale to keep the pixel-art crisp. This took literal months to get the math right lol.

Yeah I also like to watch it working. I frequently have to stop it midway if it starts writing bad architecture or syntax. The earlier it's caught the better.

I really like the vibrancy, but my first thought was that it was some kind of conch-like shell instead of a rock

Not really. It ensures the data is sent in full and correctly. What the browser does with that received data is its own business and unrelated to this process. So browsers would still be able to modify the DOM (hide ads) and afaik, block specific connections (like tracking servers).

Don't Certificate Authorities already achieve this by verifying the origin point? Therefore if the origin and transport are good, the end result must be good too? But maybe I misunderstand, I don't work in security lol.

Very true, because he's shown that he could definitely deliver, he just totally flopped the initial presentation. NMS a few years later ended up being really fantastic though and I have a ton of hours on it. Also the way they do major updates really drum up excitement and have been great execution.

I like that your asset folder is filled with scary subdirectory names, and then there's just "Kenny"

I get a bit jealous of other gamedevs working on fun stuff 🫠 Feels like 90% of my time is spent on fixing various issues and architecture. I built my own format to work around #Godot UIDs and paths to fix issues I had, and now have been working on a central registry db to query project data.

Yup! Right now the map is gibberish and each tile is decided by purely a random number, but it's a sandbox and I want it to be very versatile. Internally it works more like Minecraft, but I'm keeping this top-down 2D look. Every tile is breakable. I've been spending a long time on the architecture.

shippage @zack.polson.dev · 20/07/2026
I've been fighting with the weird quirks of #Godot 's TileMapLayer. You can see my tile placement multi-threading get interrupted and leave blank tiles lol. It's also still too laggy and stutters quite a bit. This is important to solve because my game is internally 3D voxels. #gamedev #solodev

ironically by following this advice, I'm pretty sure you're not able to create a new Tuta account while on Tor Browser

I don't believe all 55k refunds were because they wanted to abuse the refund system. I think that's just an excuse. Also it would be very anti-consumer and kill sales overall if they removed this policy.

If your character has "fake" gravity and acceleration on the 3rd axis, is it really fake anymore? I'm trying to do 2.5d physics and am stuck working on faking 3d by using the z-order as the 3rd dimension, or just doing real 3d physics and mapping it to a 2d sprite.

shippage @zack.polson.dev · 11/07/2026
Dang that's a good change, but also understandable. Also jumping complicates the physics a lot!

I'm expecting age verification to hit my state soon. It's probably time to start migrating to a self-hosted VPS. I already host my own website and use custom domains for email, so what's another added to the stack? Hopefully Bsky's #decentralization actually holds up!
010
shippage @zack.polson.dev · 10/07/2026
It's going to be testing just how decentralized Bsky really is. If (when) it comes for me, I'm hoping I can just self-host. Bsky should theoretically be built for that.

World building a kind of essence that gets discovered and ends up bringing oppositions together so they can work together and produce more. It'll end up being just chocolate lol.

smh next you'll say that encouraging the raiders to lawlessly kill each other doesn't make much financial sense!

I've been getting used to the workflow of unit/integration tests and I can't go back now. It just gives me so much more confidence that I can start having more or my project rely on a well-tested module. Also when debugging it lets me (usually) rule out that module for issues/bugs. #godot #gamedev

Neighbor randomly came over and dropped some lore about my house to me. My house is ~100 years old and is filled with secrets and history I don't know about. It's honestly kinda exciting and I still have locked areas I haven't managed to get into yet, and I live solo. Perfect for a #gamedev 😅

Yeah 720p is acceptable on the Steam Deck because of the screen size. For a living room focused console, 720p will look way worse on a TV.

What is the point of enabling? Scripts should be able to access the UID/path regardless. Afaik, the only difference between enabling/disabling is if the assets show up in the quick finder or not.
