Years ago I had lunch with an Irish gent who was telling me about his time in 14th intel co. Apparently it actually started as an early SIGINT program that operated under the cover of a laundry company that would drive around delivering clean clothes while the electronics were packed in the roof.

NEW, from the @washingtonpost.com: A previously-suppressed novel from a former deep-cover CIA officer skewers the agency—with many true-life details smuggled in under the guise of fiction. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

Espionage diplomacy is a funny thing. The CIA director reportedly makes a request—don’t share intel with the Iranians—to the SVR director that he would never agree to; the SVR director denies Russia is sharing intel with Iran (of course a liaison channel is open). A merry-go-round of deception.

Thrilled to announce that I’m joining the extraordinary national security team at the @washingtonpost.com, helping out as @ellenwapo.bsky.social is at her Harvard fellowship. I’ll be reporting—big shocker—on the intelligence community. If you want to get in touch, I’m on Signal at zsd.19.

Some of that was the OSS boys learning the hard way that they couldn't do Jedburgh style ops in East Asia.

Something I’ve been thinking about over the last few days is how CIA was created to conduct intelligence-gathering and covert action against the Soviets and their proxies and then almost immediately was sucked into a paramilitary quagmire against China on the Korean peninsula.

Trump told the Supreme Court this month that he must build his ballroom so he'll have a secure space in case of attack. But he already has one, former officials say — a secret bunker under the White House. (No, not the one under the East Wing.) Our exclusive tonight at @washingtonpost.com.

The White House already has a nuclear-proof facility buried deep underground and built in secret after 9/11.
