Perf win: blog.fontawesome.com had an animated GIF poster image published recently (for an Aug 4 blog post). Changing the @11ty.dev Image plugin formats from "avif, auto" to "avif, webp, auto" added an animated WebP to the <picture> stack and saved 439kB of transfer weight! (nothing else changed) 🏆️
A non-animated screenshot of the animated poster image with Firefox DevTools opened to the Network panel. 352KB of Network traffic was transferred.

I was curious what the red/yellow cards used in the World Cup would look like with color vision deficiency (Protanopia shown). Seems like a player could be shown a card and not know the color. Does it matter with sufficient contrast and only 2 cards? Could be easily solved by adding a symbol.
An official referee holder for red and yellow cards, with the cards peaking out. A comparison is shown simulating Protanopia, where both cards are a muted shade of yellow.

feeling a certain way after seeing @dr-axel.de cited in a package.json docs search query after they took their website down citing “AI companies stealing my work” — seems like they should be compensated for this by the search engine company, no?
The "bin" field in package.json allows you to define executable files that can be run as commands from the terminal after installing the package. These executables can be scripts or binaries, and they are made available globally when the package is installed with the -g flag.

what in the capital-D descender is going on here
how many ps are in google

There is only 1 "p" in the word Google (found in the lowercase g if you count its bottom loop, but strictly speaking, the letter "p" does not appear in the word at all).

TIL Lighthouse is adding an Agentic Browsing metric: developer.chrome.com/docs/lightho... That CLS is listed as a sub-metric seems like a big ol’ code smell to me (and reveals some brittle implementation?): are agents relying on element dimensions?
