UCLA workers at early ed centers slated for closure chant at close of public comment as they walked out of area. “UCLA, let our children learn and play,” they said. UC board chair did NOT threaten unlawful assembly. Past chants led to that warning/actual summoning of UC police to disperse crowd.

She fears this will lead to UC-wide domino effect of other campuses closing their childcare centers. More than a dozen students, professors, staff and alumni spoke at public comment this week to keep the centers open — they couldn’t be able to work without it, they said. Center staff are also here.

Stephanie Valadez, president of @ucgpc.bsky.social, tells the UC regents that her kids (one beside her here) should be “learning, growing, playing” and not be “in grown-up spaces learning to be silent.” She is referring to UCLA’s decision to close its remaining childcare centers for staff in 2027.

The number of red-tagged homes in Rancho Palos Verdes due to land movement has increased from two to 18 after city officials began inspecting properties as part of a buyout program. The inspections also resulted in 34 properties being yellow tagged, meaning they have been moderately damaged.
