i think it's less 'parents being authoritarian' and more that much of the world view children as inherently subhuman property that expected to develop amnesia about their treatment once aging into an arbitrary age of majority

I know this: many parents decide it’s my way or the highway and then flip out when their kids choose the latter. Think this through, authoritarian parents.
