Old fashioned has an apple fritter the size of your face which has to count for something

I used to have dura ace bar end shifters and truly the reliability and fine tuning possible with bar end is unrivaled. Now I’m an asshole with axs on most stuff but do miss the simple elegance and ability to use my worn ass cassette and cables for longer

Today I made some of my coworkers give me idioms to match "slower than molasses in January" and gotta say the one that translates as "slower than an asthmatic snail" is my new fav

a venn diagram where the left circle is labeled "known as warty boys" and the right circle is labeled "banned in ireland".
left circle has poets.
the intersect has toads.
right circle has ed sheeran.

Lovely moment that really encapsulates my experience in tech today: We worked out that the conference room speaker silences women’s voices when you turn on background noise suppression in Teams

Did a lot of heavy squat, and generally a fair amount of leg day today, so the man who yelled “that’s a thick ass” at me as I left the gym today honestly had impeccable timing

Happy 35th Anniversary to "Darmok"
curated design by unknown author, a certifiably ancient image (but originally a ThinkGeek shirt maybe?), a screenprint-style image of Jean Luc Picard of Star Trek TNG playing guitar, in the style of a rock band's tour shirt, with text: Darmok & Jalad at Tanagra September 1991

I mean relatively speaking, yes now better, but my kingdom for actually nice E-W streets to ride on north of 31st

USDA Crit Beef Inspector @youterus.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Ah yeah if I’m going for painted lane I still take Lawrence which has its own problems but I’ve had way more montrose close calls per mile than Lawrence and after 10+ years of weekly Wilson riding, I’ve still never had anything bad happen to me there, at least W of Clark. Uptown is all a shitshow
110
USDA Crit Beef Inspector @youterus.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Oh interesting I avoid montrose because it’s both narrow and heavily trafficked. Wilson is so narrow no one tries to close pass you and way less risk of dooring too. Montrose is too busy for the space they designate for bikes, imo

USDA Crit Beef Inspector @youterus.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
But basically, Wilson is less stressful than Lawrence, but avoid during school pick up/drop off. You can ride North Branch trail a lot of the way to Mariano’s on elston for a low stress grocery, or you can take the trail at Central Park/carmen to get basically to the Jewel on foster

Getting that sweet sweet 50/50 split is like the only cycling metric I chase anymore outside of max power for intervals under 30s. Love to see it
Most beautiful post ride stat of 50%L 50%R power balance

I tried a new tight and I really like it! it's great news because Velocio is getting to rich for my blood. Very pleased with the non-thermal Ornot tight, perfect for when your ride starts in the 50s and ends in the 60+ Hard to beat the price point and still have a decent chamois too

Ease of finding jobs to apply for that match my salary wants and experience level is simultaneously both heartening and disheartening because if it's this frictionless the pipeline has to be so cursed I'll need a nepotism to even get a review.

I need to find a new panic attack refocusing strategy because my anxiety has been spiking a lot lately and I used to mentally go through my most ideal bike build and make sure I could name all the required parts but it’s less engaging now because I actually don’t want anything I don’t already have

If this is somehow yours, can I help you find a different bike that sucks less

Hi please enjoy this cursed e-bike outside of a grocery store. This was like 2 weeks ago so I assume it has already caught fire by now.
E-bike locked to a rack with a shitty cable lock. It’s a blue hybrid and the brand appears to be “sport” it had shimano tourney shifting and mechanical disc brakes. I am mildly concerned for the on going safety of its owner.

Or use OP! Shakespeare wasn’t writing in old English and OP would actually be interesting cause more of the puns would shine through
010
USDA Crit Beef Inspector @youterus.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Would have to read about the actual film to see if they just meant OP which would be cool so I hope that’s what it is but original pronunciation of Shakespeare and old English are 10000000000% not the same thing I am spiraling over here

USDA Crit Beef Inspector @youterus.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Reading the original post just fills me with the compulsive need to point out that old English is linguistically inappropriate for the period. Your response is better

It’s like even if I weren’t so strongly weighted in the sprinter only category of muscle and cardiovascular composition, pretty sure I’d still suck at ITT and breakaways. Thank god I’m all fast twitch

USDA Crit Beef Inspector @youterus.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Even if I had the right fitness profile I don’t think I could ever win a race from a long solo breakaway because it so damn boring so I’d blow it from lack of focus Racing is most fun when there are people around me to play off of

911 was also the first time it occurred to me that someone might not already know where my parents live I was used to clarifying which set of people with my last name I belonged to but that was usually where the questions ended if they didn't already know me on sight

if you never gave people directions starting with "do you know where so and so live" or "it's the second right after the cemetery" or even worse "we only had one stop light" don't even bother

Normally when people want to get into a "who is from somewhere more rural" discussion with me I cite my graduating high school class size (41) but now thinking about including remembering when I had to memorize my address in middle school because we just got one with 911 being rolled out
