That’s what people often get wrong about scientists: First, they’re not all “geniuses,” mostly persistent question-askers. Second, they’re not lone wolves. Science is teamwork. Third, they’re not emotionless. Science is full of frustration, joy, and hope.
Graphic titled ‘Debunking myths about scientists’ over a blurred photo of a scientist working in a laboratory. Two columns labeled ‘MYTH’ and ‘FACT’ compare statements: Myth: scientists are cold and only care about data; Fact: science includes emotions like frustration, excitement, and hope. Myth: scientists’ lives revolve entirely around research; Fact: long lab hours doesn't mean no interests elsewhere. Myth: scientists prefer to work alone; Fact: science is collaborative and mentors and colleagues make discovery possible. Your Neighborhood Scientist logo and name appear at the bottom.

When Francesca Costabile was 3, she asked her dad for a birthday gift most kids would never request: a blood test appointment. She was fascinated by the “tiny warriors” in her blood and wanted to know how they keep us healthy.
