Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 02/09/2026Canada has a chocolate and coffee candy bar and I swear it is the only chocolate I can tolerate. I have had dreams of being in a Montréal Dollarama’s candy aisle again. 010
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 22/08/2026I knew where you were talking about before you posted the pic. A kid got hit and died when I was going to school up there. But it’s a state road (not like the County would do much anyway) and the gateway to the Beltway from the mall so why worry about pedestrians…even if they are elderly or students 000
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026CT has done a decent job on shifting its transit priorities from exclusively being shore people getting to NYC but there is much to be desired. I shouldn’t be looking at New Jersey as a model (with all due respect to NJ). 000
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026But I just want CT to know that rail users exist outside of the New Haven Line. The Hartford Line and Shore Line East matters and once we get there we might spare a thought for bus riders as well. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026And I’m pretty sure that it is cheaper to fix the rails than to buy expensive real estate along CT’s Gold Coast to expand 95 and the Merritt is a historic landmark so the state couldn’t expand it even if they wanted to/could. Both routes have the same issue and the only solution is better rail 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026If they don’t want to help than let everyone sit on 95 and the Merritt. I’m pretty sure that the people already stuck in traffic there are already pissed AF in traffic 110
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026Do I wish that we could have less bureaucracy to make the actual trains run on time, yes…but when you have a major partner being obstinate we (CT) should be more like Janno and the MTA and shift some weight around on Amtrak and the Feds. 110
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026Yes, CT’s plan to update tracks/catenary/etc to allow for speeds of 90mph along portions of the NHL are milquetoast, but what can one expect without a major stable federal funding source? Hell if it weren’t for Amtrak Joe and the Biden Administration it would probably take longer and do less… 110
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026How about Amtrak and the Feds start recognizing the positive economic impact that the NHL brings to not just the region but country and start throwing money at CT’s plan to cut time and red tape, not just along the NHL but throughout the state? 110
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026Is the weakest portion of the NEC thru CT, specifically the portion the state owns between Greenwich and New Haven? Yes…but also home to one of the busiest commuter rail lines in the country and a crucial portion of the NEC… 110
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026Trying to be diplomatic but I want a Governor of CT that will use the state’s ownership of the New Haven Line to make Amtrak cooperate/fund more CT rail projects. 130
Reposted by Chance CarterKate Rozen @katerozen.bsky.social · 05/08/2026When I see public meetings of residents screaming about privacy invasions, yeah, that makes sense with the flock cameras but that is totally different than the automated enforcement. ugh. Talk about undermining a good, and much needed system. 081
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026It doesn’t help that Hartford is the hub of the region but has no real say in the region due to how local governance works in CT and being a poor ass city in a rich ass state. But I will save that for another diatribe. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026Can you think of another metro area in the US that successfully stopped a beltway? And if so, did that metro figure out a way to not have over 150k vehicles drive thru the middle of the city because they have no choice? 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026Because I am tired of wasting money on studies that don’t get seen and designs that don’t address long-standing problems. Greater Hartford is about to have a generational infrastructure investment and it needs to be equitable, efficient and help heal the scars left across Hartford and its residents. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026I was not planning on this being this long of a thread but if anyone (especially someone in or running for office in CT) agrees, we need to connect ASAP. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026Greater Hartford could shift more of its nearly million residents to transit which will be safer, more environmentally efficient, and help target/drive increasing density and more housing in a region/state that is sorely in need as addressed in the new report released about TOD in CT by @rpa.org 110
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026And to circle back, if we had enforcement, bus lanes and a BRT-lite system using the foundation of CRCOG’s Rapid Routes study and the plans for New Haven’s on-street BRT on Hartford’s main transit corridors with infill stops on the Hartford Line and transit on the Griffin Line instead of a trail… 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026It would link Downtown to major employers (The Hartford), a hospital (St Francis), a university (Univ of Hartford), a shopping/employment center (Copaco/Cottage Grove Rd), Bloomfield Center, and the Day Hill Rd corridor…along with people that rely on transit…and their are hella TOD opportunities… 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026And instead of wasting money on turning a rare rail corridor thru Hartford into a trail that will be unusable for half the year due to weather, can we use the Griffin Line for BRT or LRT or something like NJTransit’s RiverLine or Ottawa’s Lines 2/4 using DMUs since the rail is already there? 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026I feel like the amount of money CT has spent on trying to stop drunk/dangerous/wrong-way drivers could be spent on those two projects and make a difference, especially during summer concert season…as well as proving higher quality transit to those who have been overdue for it… 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026A station in the North Meadows would allow for visitors to one of New England’s largest outdoor music venues and workers/residents in the Meadows/Clay-Arsenal to have a quick trip to Union Station and connecting services as well. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026The Wilson station could be placed near the City Line so it can serve the new apartment development at the former state building at 3580 Main (along with the existing nearby residents) but could leverage the new park that Riverfront Recapture is developing between Meadow Rd and Riverside Park 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026The Hartford Line runs along the eastern edge of the North End and an infill station somewhere between Wilson (in Windsor) and the North Meadows would not only help get folks on the east side of Keney Park downtown faster like the folks in Windsor Center… 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026The North End is predominately lower income, Black and Latino, and the construction of I-84 cut this portion of Hartford off from the rest of the city (especially Downtown), raising asthma rates and reducing opportunities. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026In other words, CT did great with the busway from Union Station in Hartford to Downtown New Britain, and wisely used existing ROW next to rail, but the new award winning BRT does not adequately connect to the North End of Hartford. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026CT did great with CTfastrak but it does not serve a Black and Brown community that has been disparately impacted by historic infrastructure development. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026If Hartford enforced parking/stopping/standing as bus stops it wouldn’t be as bad but considering that some corridors in Hartford see a bus stopping every 3-10 minutes at peak, having a bus pull into and out of a stop seems more disruptive than giving them their own lane. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026But instead we build curb bump-outs and redesigned our corridors to make transit get stuck in traffic with everyone else, making it inconvenient for existing transit users and making drivers see transit as inconvenient for their commutes by having to stop in their lane to pick up/drop off riders… 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026If we used the existing ROW on corridors for transit too, we could have had bike lanes and part-time bus lanes that could be used for transit during peak times and parking during off peak and been wide enough to give bikers curbside lanes even with off-peak parking 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026Bus Lanes that are properly enforced with cameras and traffic enforcement allow for more users to get thru existing corridors and lays the groundwork for enhanced transit options like light rail. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026Corridors like Albany/Blue Hills, Main St, Wethersfield Ave, Franklin Ave, Farmington Ave and Park St should use whatever right of way available to prioritize transit considering how many riders use those corridors to get in/out/thru Downtown. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026And CT resident dissatisfaction on new speed/red-light cameras along with the issues with Flock and other automatic license plate readers being compounded makes it difficult to argue for more on-street, low-cost, quick build transit fixes knowing the existing system isn’t being properly served. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026If the City of Hartford enforced parking/stopping/standing at bus stops, the buses would not be forced to stop in the general traffic lane. But Hartford doesn’t enforce bike lanes so asking for bus stop enforcement seems futile and makes the bus lane argument even harder 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026Or they just decide to use the turn lanes (which shift direction based on oncoming intersections) as a general passing lane that they speed down… 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026The work done on Albany Ave in Hartford so far has been a missed opportunity. The redesign from Garden St to Westbourne Pkwy has made traffic worse, forced buses to stop in the only travel lane, and has created more hazards with impatient people using the turn lanes to pass 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026I wish CTDOT’s complete streets policy shifted priorities from cars/trucks to bikes and pedestrians but also included transit riders as well… 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026Which would only require some queue jumping, and transit signal priority along the corridor…but alas we have to wait for the Bloomfield pilot to see if it can be implemented. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026So I would hope that considering the state’s investment along Blue Hills, especially with the new traffic signals would allow for transit signal priority to help provide Hartford, especially the North End, with a BRT-lite service… 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026@crcogcapitolregion.bsky.social has identified Blue Hills (along with Albany Ave which CTDOT controls as US-44) as a priority transit corridor in Greater Hartford through their rapid routes study… 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026And CTDOT is using Blue Hills Ave in Hartford as a pilot for their statewide bus stop enhancement…so we have new bus shelters on Blue Hills… 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026They recently repaved/restriped Blue Hills using their complete streets policy so now there is a unprotected bike lane…which wasn’t coordinated with the City of Hartford’s complete streets/traffic calming plans for the neighborhood surrounding neigborhood. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026But the good news is that they are piloting it…in Bloomfield…probably on Cottage Grove Road (CT-218)…which is a start (considering they need to start somewhere) but wish they considered/used Blue Hills Avenue (CT-187) in Hartford. 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026Fun fact: CTDOT has facilitated TSP on municipal owned roads like in New Haven…but they haven’t done it on a state road which they control… 100
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 29/07/2026I can't wait for the primary election to happen in CT so I can both vote and stop being bombarded with ads. 010
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 27/07/2026The CTfastrak is great but does little to nothing for transit dependent folks in the North End of Hartford and the Griffin Line is low hanging fruit to bring similar BRT to us and Bloomfield and possibly Windsor and even BDL 010
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 27/07/2026As a member of Hartford’s Planning and Zoning Commission, I supported CRCOG’s plans to build a trail but only if it could incorporate transit as well! 110
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Do I support active (biking/walking) transportation? Yes! Do I think that an active rail line should be used for a trail without transit when it connects folks without cars, a college and other hubs? No! 120
Chance Carter @youngjeopardy.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Do I support more/better acccess to the CT River, especially from the North End? Of course, do I support the Hartline…no, not the way it is currently designed. www.courant.com/2026/07/26/n...courant.comNew connection could break down barriers to CT river. ‘A whole new vibe’ that’s welcoming and creative.A long, percolating plan to create a more walkable, inviting way to reach the river is taking a major step forward. 111
