We've got ISSUES. Literally. We scraped >100k special issues & over 1 million articles to bring you a PISS-poor paper. We quantify just how many excess papers are published by guest editors abusing special issues to boost their CVs. How bad is it & what can […] [Original post on fediscience.org]

Not sure to understand that book cover, but eh, why not?

Spending 50% of my energy trying to detect use of AI while I'm grading reports of my students. What a time to be alive 💀

Attending a talk by a researcher from Israel without a word about what is happening in Gaza is highly disappointing. I was expecting better of the ESEB community. Really sad. #eseb2025

Rarely do I get to post about mastodons on Mastodon #ScienceMastodon #ESEB2025 @ecoevosocial
Love Dalén stands in front of a screen displaying images related to mastodons. On the left, a skeletal model of a mastodon is shown, and on the right is a map with data and a phylogenetic tree related to habitat contractions.

Leaving Lausanne for the #eseb2025 in Barcelona, doing my fair part in local tourist hatred. I'll try to communicate my highlights here :) So eager to see friends, and discuss #evolutionarybiology of #insects !

Super happy to see my latest work finally published! In this study, we show how the *Drosophila* immunity field has largely overlooked a key factor: the role of food composition in infection outcomes. Our results show that methylparaben (Nipagin) acts as an antibiotic, significantly reducing […]

Recently published a study I'm very proud of! We wanted to understand the variability of symbiont-derived protection of aphids against parasitoids. 🦠🦠🦠 The experiments involved a massive work of symbiont transfection. We do not confirm the initial hypothesis of highly specific […]

Henry Youn #Biology25: microbiomes might be able to adapt to environmental changes faster than hosts: could host insects benefit from the microbiome’s fast evolution? (I wonder whether it could lead to maladaptation of the host to the microbiome?)

Huge work from Karina Gutiérrez-García of the Ludington Lab. This is a wonderful paper for anyone interested in microbiome, even beyond fruit flies www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science…
