so this is a common enough trope, but it's kinda off the mark - it denies the agency of people making a choice to act abusively, and insists that it's only reactionary. people can choose to be shit, just as they can choose to be awesome.

have had three people so far react with anticipatory dread when I showed them this picture.

it's a picture of a thin carbon fiber rod with a handle at one end - this one's handle is formed from conductive beads - colloquially referred to as an 'evil stick'; it's a bdsm toy used to give very strongly stingy sensations that linger extensively.

it's sitting on top of the envelope it came in, because that provides a nicely contrasting tan background for the black and silver materials of the implement itself.

I found this cursed artifact on masto, via mastodon.murkworks.net/@moira/11612... and it is a thing of terrible beauty

A bicycle is parked at a green tube-formed bicycle rack, of a shape like a triangular prism in wireframe, in front of a pale-green clapboard wall.

As you begin to look closer at the bicycle, you begin to notice anomalies - strangenesses - like the engine mounted to the frame between the seat and the handlebars, with angle-iron supporting its mounting. Then the drive belt, that loops from a projection on the side of the white-painted motor around the back wheel, whose rim has been warped to act as an affordance for this belt. The single gear, with the chain around the pedals, is still present, visible thru the wheel. But then the true horror begins to dawn - for this, this monstrosity wrought in tubes wrapped around each other - this was a Made Thing; this was designed with intent - for mounted on the handlebars is a brake lever, actuating, as you trace it with horrified gaze downward, a lever upon which is mounted the tensioner wheel for the belt - a tensioner that is in turn held against the belt by bungees attached to the angle-irons that support the engine, the engine that you have just realized has no throttle nor transmission; this brake lever is, your horrified brain gibbers and shouts, the THROTTLE of this infernal contraption - this horror of engineering brilliance turned towards solving COMPLETELY! THE WRONG! PROBLEM!

Also for some reason there's a wrench dangling off the front, probably because bits keep falling off or something.
