Taking James' question & going in a direction y'all can see a mile away: if you had a friend completely new to historical cdramas, which accessible but genuinely good #cdrama would you recommend as a starting point? 🤔 #AgainstTheCurrent #NirvanaInFire #NewLifeBegins #TheStoryOfMinglan #JoyofLife

I'm probably in the minority, but I believe you can still love those books/movies and that world - but enjoy them *in private*. Stop talking about them, stop asking new acquaintences if they like them (?????????), stop wearing and/or displaying the merch, stop all manner putting money into this.

I've had queer (cis) friends say that they "just want to enjoy the new adaptation uncomplicatedly", but the sad truth is that that is not possible—and never has been. I'll shout it from the rooftops once again: Starve her of oxygen. LET 👏 THE 👏 IP 👏 DIE 👏. Grieve it, then let it go COMPLETELY.

not sure about greatest but it’s probably the one I most enjoyed writing

footnote on the word 熱趕郎: ‘The iconoclastic philosopher Li Zhi 李贄, who died in 1602 after cutting his own throat to make a point, used it in the same sense around the same time, in a posthumously published book of essays whose title (續焚書) I can only translate as Burn This Book Too.’

Little Mushroom! It would be SO great as TV or donghua series.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY like physically fragile main characters. Especially if they are either intelligent and quick-witted or pure of heart. Identity shenanigans of all flavours are great. All of the above and dying characters give me life.

I found one on Lofter the day before yesterday. It's called 却恨棠花 and it knives me in all the best ways!

Mostly indoors, on the floor in my room! But I also very much enjoy lounging for hours away on a bench in a quiet temple on a cooler day.

The Little Prince (it's the sort of book that - to paraphrase a teacher who was actually talking about something else xD - you'll look back on at certain times in your life, when the time is right, and the words will be there for you)

I think there's a lot of room for the intersection of space opera, zerg, omegaverse and sentinel-guide stories in danmei. But if you keep your mind open no matter how absurd the premise sounds, you may just find stories with warm hearts and refreshing POVs.

I am currently MOST EXCITED about (in descending order: 1. The Textual Practices of Literary Training in Medieval China (but a few other foundation laying books are planned between now and then xD) 2. Inventing the Renaissance 3. Merchants of Doubt

Fiction 🤭 1. 你就是那个beta? / So you're that beta? 2. 有八个男朋友怎么了 / What's wrong with having eight boyfriends?

No preference if work is completed. If ongoing, LONG CHAPTERS PLEASE (but only if the author also loves wfiting them long).

I love all these mediums and feel they each have their advantages. Physical copies spark the most joy, but I do enjoy the convenience of an ebook (and the vandalism it allows xD), and the audiobook is GREAT while I excercise, put up or put away the laundry, or have my hands otherwise occupied.

My current favourite is Manifest in Words, Written on Paper: Producing and Circulating Poetry in Tang Dynasty China. It's a gift that keeps on giving (the references in the footnotes have been a delight!) and it is unlikely to be toppled for quite a while.

Physically fragile main character 🤭 This is more of a trope, but I'd read any genre in a heartbeat so long the main character's health is delicate.

randomly (and absurdly) sad that no one ever says they have fav nif fmvs with a cn song or no lyrics, just music and characters talking 🥺

Never thought I would say this (because its /that/ publisher 🤣), but surnames are a social construct made by humans. Fungi do not need surnames. A free little mushroom can keep the name it was gifted and go its own path! (Actually quite a charming choice to me - yes! Like Feiliu!)

Targeting the ~symptom~ is never going to solve the root cause. They're just going to end up playing whack-a-mole with the latest gratification trend that becomes popular enough for extreme fan behaviour.

Honestly, what can you do to force productions to invest time in train their actors like they used to 🤣 none of them have years to months to waste on that these days, time is money! Also they probably have safety standards to follow now... and actors have insurance xD We aren't ever going back.
