burning myself out trying to make Good Comics. taking a break by making Shitty Comics instead 100% based on a true story #art #comics #comicsky

Shitty five minute comic, ink on paper (i.e. the nearest blank journal to me at that moment in time.) first “panel”: a curly haired lady with glasses and Angry Eyes is drawing on a tablet. She says: “NO”. second “panel”: a pop-up dialogue in a digital art program entitled “new layer”. The pop-up has an input box for layer name, layer mode, and a bunch of blah blah idk I never read past the first two lines. It has two buttons: “ok” and “no.” A cursor is hovering over “ok”. Over the pop-up, a voiceover reads: “I do not want to name my layers.” Third “panel”: the lady is throwing her hands up and says: “Let God sort ‘em out. I do not give a single fuck.” Fourth panel: the lady, overcome with hubris, continues drawing on her tablet, saying: “Hahaha this is great. I’m so great.”
Fifth “panel”: several hours later, she is hunched over, head in hands, sobbing. Moral: pride cometh before a fall, etc

I like this point, and I think it points to the problem lying not with relying on intermediaries but their quality someone who depends on (say) local newspapers and their union to make sense of the wider world is just not as likely to be grossly mislead as someone who relies on Youtube Shorts

People writ large are simultaneously far too credulous and too inappropriately skeptical to engage constructively with the vast amounts of information we’re all exposed to now. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that faith in science (for one) peaked in the age of local newspapers and evening news

I work at a retail pharmacy atm and literally at least half the store is locked up. And then there’s a skeleton crew of employees to cut costs so there’s never anyone available to unlock everything you need. It’s hugely disincentivizing to honest people who actually want to spend money there

"artists should charge more!" then pay them. Do comission them. tip them what u think they're worth. Artists wont believe they are worth money until u give it to them. They know what it's like to not have much, & hope everyone can afford their art. SHOW them they CAN ask more. Don't just Tell them.
