Since 1997, Canada has been one of 122 countries that vowed to never use or develop anti-personnel mines again, and to support mine-affected countries through mine clearing and mine risk education. Told through the experiences of a Canadian military engineer, this video describes what led to the creation of the Ottawa Treaty, the impact land mines have on civilians, and methods used to work towards a mine-free future. This video provides educators an opportunity to present oral history as a valuable primary source and incorporate firsthand accounts into classroom activities and discussions.
