Anyway it makes me sad to see author photos in book jackets where the woman is just glaring superciliously out at me. Don't you want to form a connection with your readers???? Isn't this a vulnerable, humane thing, to put words to something you see or feel and to ask other to see and feel it too?

It's not equality for women to meet men where they already are, particularly when that place is pretty shit! Cf. women being 'assertive' and demanding pay rises etc.—the solution was for employers to pay staff what they're worth!!!! Not for ALL of us to become ruthless agents of capitalism!!!

I appreciate that the increasing prevalence of unsmiling professional photos of women is a reaction against the dictate that women must smile and be approachable in all contexts. However, the solution should have been for men to smile in these photos. We don't all have to be stony-faced.

When oh when will Australian lit publishing stop beating this particular dead horse, and allow its writers to write about things that aren't this blasted country. The national identity crisis is really old news by now and I'm tired of it and how it hamstrings our culture (such as it is).

Almost Famous, in a heartbeat. It is just the perfect film about the importance of letting supposedly little, unimportant things in. Letting them matter. Being a fan, in other words. "To truly love some silly little piece of music, or some band, so much that it hurts."

This is being done with YOUR land. Public land is ALL OUR LAND. Homeless people are already criminalised and evicted from "private" land. Now they cannot exist on public land either. At this stage #BCC could at least be honest & admit they would prefer all homeless people to quietly die.
