We’ve recorded dozens of Saudi air raids in the last 24hrs. The most intensive period of Saudi bombing since 2022 and the first against the Houthis since the 13th and 24th July.

On 28 April 2025, a US strike on a migrant detention centre in Yemen left at least 68 African migrants dead and 47 injured. Survivors say those killed were all Ethiopian, all men mostly in their early 20s. It was the 2nd time the detention centre had been bombed www.middleeasteye.net/news/america...

The Yemeni government claimed the air raid despite lacking the capability. All indications are the RSA was the actor. The plane now appears to have landed at Houthi-controlled Hodeidah airport.

Today's air raid on Sana'a airport marks the first strikes by Saudi Arabia against the Houthis since 2022. The bombing (at least four individual strikes, up to 13) was to prevent an Iranian aircraft carrying a Houthi delegation returning from Tehran from landing. The plane appeared to re-route.

April 2025 - during Trump's Yemen bombing campaign - was the worst month for civilian harm in airstrikes since 2017. At least 206 civilians killed, 17 of them children, and 366 injured. Civilian harm rates in US strikes jumped more than sevenfold from 0.27 per strike under Biden to >2 under Trump.

A single strike in April ended a 3 month pause in bombings, targeting a missile launcher in Houthi-controlled Mukayras (~35 miles from the Arabian Sea) on 19 April - the 1st day of US military action in the blockade of Iran's ports. Operations included US helicopters transiting over the Arabian Sea.

Since the war began on 2 March, Israel has struck at least 128 medical facilities and ambulances across south Lebanon, killing 40 healthcare workers and wounding 107, according to the Lebanese ministry of health. The British base at Diego Garcia has been back in the spotlight after Kier Starmer initially refused to give permission for US bombers to deploy from the island airbase for strikes against Iran, despite previously allowing American B-2 Spirits to launch bombing runs into Yemen from there last year.

Almost a quarter of the 129 journalists and media workers killed in 2025 were Yemenis. On 10 September 2025, in a single Israeli strike that deliberately targeted media outlets in Sana'a, 31 journalists and media workers were killed.

Three strikes in September all in the capital resulted in more than 100 civilian casualties in each incident. Eight strikes in the capital in September marked the heaviest month of bombing in the city since US strikes ended in May and the highest number in Yemen’s capital by Israel in any month.

The rate of civilian harm in Israeli strikes remains unprecedented. In Trump's bombing campaign earlier this year the average was 2.07 civilian casualties per strike. In seven years of Saudi-led air raids the rate was 0.76. In September, the average surged to over 32 civilian casualties per strike.

Civilian casualties in Israeli strikes in Yemen doubled in September in a month marked by the deliberate killing of journalists at two media outlets. We recorded 22 men, 11 women and five children killed in the strike. A further 147 were injured including 31 children. mailchi.mp/4570818fcf40...

We recorded 102 civilian casualties in two strikes on 24 Aug: a strike on a YPC fuel station creating a massive fire ball and a further strike on Hizyaz power station. The two incidents killed 10 civilians, injured 92. Israel has bombed Hizyaz power station six times in 9 months.

The month was marked by the first reported targeted assassinations by Israel in Yemen. Israel assassinated the Sana’a-based PM, 11 ministers and cabinet officials in a 28 Aug. strike, deploying up to 10 munitions on the gathering of political figures.

The outlier remains Israel. In 32 Israeli strikes in Yemen since July the average rate of civilian harm is >9 casualties per air raid. 12 Israeli strikes in May focused on civilian infrastructure resulting in 75 civilian casualties + destruction of all civilian passenger jets operating from Sanaa.

The average rate of civilian harm in US strikes was on par with the Saudi-led bombing of Yemen 10 years ago. The average rate of civilian casualties in the first 53 days of Saudi's air was was 2.8 per strike. The average rate in US strikes was similarly just over 2 civilian casualties per strike.

The deadly attack on a detention facility in Sa’ada, Yemen, resulted in a high number of casualties, many of whom were migrants.   We are supporting the Yemen Red Crescent Society, which has been evacuating the wounded, and leading the dignified management of the dead.  Also, we are providing medical supplies to nearby hospitals caring for those injured.  All parties to conflict must respect and protect civilians, including people deprived of their liberty.
