A picture uploaded to social media of a vehicle purportedly hit by a US drone strike in the city of Al Ghaydah, Al-Mahrah governorate on 12 February 2026. Additional images indicate the munition was likely the bladed (rather than explosive) R9X Hellfire missile. An alleged AQAP member, a Somali national, was reportedly killed in the strike. One of 21 US counter terrorism strikes recorded by Yemen Data Project since Trump returned to office in January 2025.

The British base at Diego Garcia has been back in the spotlight after Kier Starmer initially refused to give permission for US bombers to deploy from the island airbase for strikes against Iran, despite previously allowing American B-2 Spirits to launch bombing runs into Yemen from there last year.
