and it’s a bloody joke since the guy who discovered the SRY gene, andrew sinclair, has said:
quote from andrew sinclair which reads « the SRY gene alone should not determine who can compete in women’s sport. this policy is based on the overly simplistic idea that the presence of the SRY gene alone is equivalent to being male. male sex is much more complex, involving multiple genes other than SRY in developmental pathways as well as hormones. the presence or absence of the SRY gene does not determine the range of human sex characteristics. »

everyone should read this book. i’d bet you’ll look at (and hopefully use) AI very differently if you knew about all of its consequences. care about the environment? AI is not your friend. care about the well-being of workers from the Global South? AI is not your friend.

disabled comments and quote reposts? is it because you knew folks were gonna barf all over de zerbi’s “i’m a girl dad” defence (AND he issued a classic non-apology too)? sp*rs, de zerbi, and the athletic, you all need to be so much better.
screenshot of a post from the athletic which reads “new tottenham hotspur head coach roberto de zerbi has addressed fan criticism over his historic backing of mason greenwood.” and has a photo of de zerbi with a quote of his reading “i have a daughter and i’m very sensitive to these things, and i always have been. i hope that over time, people will get to know me better and will understand that at that moment i didn’t mean to take a stance.”

the screenshot also shows that there are options to repost but that quote posts have been disabled.

how lucky are we to have dr. nonhlanhla (or noe) mkumbuzi open #WiSEAN2025 with an amazing keynote on EDI and intersectionality in sport?! understanding how people can be privileged in some aspects and marginalized in others is crucial to advancing inclusive research in sport! @wisean.bsky.social
noe, a Black woman in a yellow top and colourful skirt, standing beside a slide titled “cis-normativity in SEM”
slide titled “what is the problem with this status quo?” 70% of women’s sport and nearly all disability sport and african sport is informed by research on able-bodied men from high income countries in the global north. slide titled “marginalization and advantage”. the image on the slide has a yellow/orange circle in the middle on a white background, symbolizing intersectionality. in the circle are words that represent positions of privilege (e.g., white, abled, cis-gender, housed) and outside the circle are words that represent positions of marginalization (e.g., person of colour, disabled, transgender/non-binary, unhoused/traveler). slide titled “intersectionality”. there is some text that defines intersectionality and an image that resembles a flower with different intersections in each of the pedals and a blending of these pedals when they converge in the middle.

as a kid, sitting in social class, learning about wwii and horrors of the holocaust and atomic bombs, i never thought this stuff would happen in my lifetime. yet, here we are in 2025. a possible world war on the brink and 18 months of a genocide livestream.

maybe it was innocent/ignorance, but damn. we live in the shittiest timeline.

did you ever wonder what you would've done if you lived in the 1930s and 1940s? would you have fought back? resisted in some way? well, you're in a similar situation now, so what are you gonna do?

as always, i'm open to conversations. they don't need to be "productive", but i do think they need to happen. and for better or worse, i've really gotten into voice notes sooooo...
