One day our state budget will do more than provide crumbs for working people, but instead handily meet the needs of all North Carolinians. We can and must think bigger. Our statement ⬇️ #ncpol
Today, Governor Stein signed the long-delayed state budget into law.

While this budget includes full funding for Medicaid, modest raises for teachers, and further investment in western North Carolina to continue rebuilding — it’s still only a starting point.

As North Carolinians continue grappling with the worsening affordability crisis, this budget prioritizes corporations and the wealthy over targeted relief for working people — and still doesn’t come close to adequately funding our public schools or paying our teachers and state employees. In short: this budget still doesn’t deliver for working North Carolinians.

One day our state budget will do more than provide crumbs for working people, but instead handily meet the needs of all North Carolinians. We can and must think bigger.

It’s our Union to perfect. Happy #IndependenceDay.
Liberty and Justice For All. Statue of Liberty. 1776-2026.Our Constitution opens by daring us to form a more perfect Union. It’s an enduring aspiration and a challenge that every generation inherits: to leave our country more just, more free, and better than we found it.
From abolitionists and the labor movement to suffragists, civil rights leaders, and LGBTQ+ advocates — each generation has pushed our country closer to its founding promise. Now, it’s our Union to perfect.
Happy Independence Day.

Happy Freedom Day! Today we honor the strength and resilience of Black Americans who endured the long, delayed fight for their own freedom. As we celebrate #Juneteenth, we must also continue our pursuit of justice, equality, and true freedom for all.
Celebrate Freedom. Juneteenth. "We must always be a strong presence, an unrelenting force working for equality and justice until the freedom gates are fully open."

“We have the choice to fan flames or stand up for our common humanity and love for our neighbors by rejecting political violence in all forms. We stand united in choosing the latter, and we hope you’ll join us.” Our joint statement with the North Carolina Federation of Young Republicans ⬇️
In the wake of the tragic events surrounding Charlie Kirk, we come together as fellow North Carolinians and as Americans to say clearly: there is no place for political violence in our state or our nation. It is unacceptable.
Our differences of opinion and debate are part of what makes our country strong. Those differences must never turn to violence.
Before we are Republicans or Democrats, we are neighbors, friends, and Americans. Each of us has a say in the world we’re building together. People shouldn’t feel intimidated out of our political process.
We have the choice to fan flames or stand up for our common humanity and love for our neighbors by rejecting political violence in all forms.
We stand united in choosing the latter, and we hope you’ll join us.

YDNC condemns Rep. Carla Cunningham’s hateful, anti-immigrant remarks. “To Rep. Cunningham: Your override vote was shameful. Your words were abhorrent. And you will be held accountable by your community.” See our statement. ⬇️
This week, following her vote to override Governor Stein’s veto of anti-immigrant legislation, Rep. Carla Cunningham disgraced her office with a hate-filled speech attacking the very immigrant communities she was elected to serve.
To say “all cultures are not equal” is completely disqualifying and has no place in our party.
Immigration is an unqualified good. Diversity is an unqualified good. These are the very ideals our nation is founded on: that people from every background can come here with nothing and build something beautiful.
At our country’s main port of entry, the Statue of Liberty bears our promise to the world. She doesn’t declare that some cultures are less equal than others. She doesn’t fearmonger about assimilation or a conveyor belt.
Lady Liberty—the United States of America—declares just this:

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

We are better because of the immigrant communities who call our country, state, and cities home.
Rep. Cunningham’s constituents deserve better than a representative who rejects this ideal and dehumanizes their neighbors on the House floor.
To Rep. Cunningham:
Your override vote was shameful.
Your words were abhorrent.
And you will be held accountable by your community.

Good luck.

“Our hearts are with everyone who knew and loved Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her spouse, and we continue hoping and praying for the full recovery of Senator John Hoffman and his spouse.” From YDNC President Zach Finley:
Our hearts are with everyone who knew and loved Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her spouse, and we continue hoping and praying for the full recovery of Senator John Hoffman and his spouse.

These heinous shootings were a targeted act of terror. It is unacceptable and nauseating to think about.

This is the result of years of right wing extremists vilifying and demonizing Democratic elected leaders. President Trump and leaders across the Republican Party need to condemn this or we’re truly beyond lost.

Statement from YDNC President @zachfinley.com on the NC Court of Appeals’ decision to disenfranchise more than 65,000 voters. “North Carolina deserves better than these losers blowing up our democratic process because they can’t admit they lost.” #ncpol
STATEMENT FROM YDNC PRESIDENT ZACH FINLEY ON NC COURT OF APPEALS’ DECISION

Raleigh, NC — Today, the Young Democrats of North Carolina’s President Zach Finley released the following statement on the NC Court of Appeals’ decision to disenfranchise more than 65,000 voters.

“Voters in North Carolina spoke in November 2024 and elected Allison Riggs to remain in her Supreme Court seat. Rather than accept their defeat, Jefferson Griffin and NC Republicans are working to steal this election by throwing out the lawful votes of 65,000 North Carolinians. Their legal arguments are nonsense, their respect for voters is non-existent, and this needs to end.

North Carolina deserves better than these losers blowing up our democratic process because they can’t admit they lost.”

Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of tireless advocacy for civil rights, economic justice, and racial equality. To truly honor his legacy, we must carry on his fight and work towards his dream of justice for all people.
