She’s a criminal, she’s been convicted to basically the same exact thing already. The fact that she’s back to being eligible and campaigning as if nothing happened for the next elections right now should put us all to shame.

This winter gonna try to adjust automations. But this thing will beat the 50 year old Danfoss mechanical thermostat that was there before

Arthur Brainville @ybalrid.info · 19/09/2026
This also exposes to HomeKit (it's an "Apple" kind of household here, sorry) a working looking thermostat rather than one that does not apply and timeout randomly. The fact that the actual temperature adjustment may take 2 minutes behind the scenes is not a concern, as long as it actually works.

I have no idea if this can be fixed with a “quirk” in zippy or whatever’s the base library used by HA for ZHA. Maybe I should look into that. But right now I have a Climate Template (also from HACS) that drives the real zigbee thermostat so I can do the update by hand using writes with ZHA Toolkit

(Because it’s obviously battery powered. Hope they last a decent time.)

It's yet another "Zigbee 3.0" device that really only want to live on a Siemens hub. Which o don't want to get and use. This one has the "sleepy end device" syndrome pretty bad. You need to catch it when it repots back temperature every 2 minutes to actually talk to it.

It seems the only good option for a Zigbee thermostat if you need one without a neutral wire ther must close a 240volt line, is the Seimens RDZ100ZB. I got it, it works *okay* with ZHA on Home Assistant but I had to write a script to repeatedly write and check attributes with ZHA Toolkit from HACS

The slower of the 2 modems is a v34 (33600) But because signals are mangled by VoIP whatever I'll do, I should be pretty happy with what they can negotiate with each other, which most of the time is: 24000 V34 V42 error correction V42bis data compression

So, *another* french Olitec modem, slightny newer SelfMemory 56000 after a factory resest decided that it was okay wiht the 55 volt rms 25hz signal from the GrandStream and started printing `RING` in the serial console!

Arthur Brainville @ybalrid.info · 16/09/2026
I remove some of the good I have to say about it. It generates a 20 or 25hz signal, which my old OLITEC modem (French made!) does not understand It cannot automatically pickup a call as, is, you need to use a ATA command. :-/

In a very long list of useless things I am playing with right now, it seems that NTP does it's job... And my rube goldberg machine of raspbery Pis and ATAs do not add that much latency Dialing NIST Colorado's time service here, from France, the clock pulse is basically in sync with this computer

(Okay, this is only for outbound and inbound calls. Also, letting the phone ring twice before it ever ring anything in the house, so the asterisk server can pick up the Caller-ID data burst. Running a software-defined enterprise-grade PBX at home is the nerdiest shit I've done in a while)

Arthur Brainville @ybalrid.info · 14/09/2026
Beside this, I am very annoyed than Free now does not let you simply use your VoIP service you pay them via SIP directly. (since 2019, it's not news, but it's the first time I need/want it) We're doing analog -> digital -> analog -> digital to have multiple phone extensions around the house now 🙈

This is a useless information for most people, but I am very happy about the ringer circuit in a GrandStream HT813. It seems very happy to ring an old mechanical french analog phone, which expect anything between like 50 to 90 volts AC? Does a better job than the phone output of the Freebox Ultra.

One gotta *love* when academics name stuff. "ORB-SLAM" (a family of tracking algos used in robotics), fully extending the name comes to: Orientated "Features form Accelerated Segment Test" and Rotated "Binary Robust Independent Elementary Features" - Simultaneous Localization And Mapping

Microsoft decided it was a good idea to not support the "/pt" parameter on mspaint.exe ? So, no more easy 1 liner to print an image file on Windows from a terminal I guess? (yes, I do that sometimes. Don't you??)

Oh oh! The French license-less car (it's a Citroën Ami, rebranded by Fiat, that was originally designed thanks to weird French regulations on such vehicles) has reached America. Fun fact: The electric motor in this thing is a re-purposed starter for a "real" engine

I have no idea what that game is, I watched half of the 1st trailer on the steam store page. It's just a bunch of enemies, locations, and weapons.I still don't know what any of this is about. If you are not selling me a story, why would I care about your so-called "RPG" game? Looks boringly bland

Recent reviews on steam for Avowed are "Mixed", and I never heard about this game before today, so the marketing did not do its job.

And, to add to the whole thin, (and you'll pardon me because I'm what is known over there as a "French Frog") In the UK they have no rules about residency in a constituency. So Count Binface can present themselves in any of these elections, regardless of where in the country it is

The FN (which has rebranded as RN in recent years) was built around and by, colaborationist, ex-OAS, and neofascist. The many little extreme far right groups banded together to make themselves a bit more palatable for the electorate and the media for 50 years. And its slowly working their way

The GabeCube is cute... It's also too expensive. Part of that is out of Valve's control though

This makes no sense. There are votes to be counted. You are not “ahead” in any meaningful way because we started counting the votes in a place people vote for you more than the other candidates

What these tools are a problem for is junior level / intern positions in these teams. Because those are the people that get the crappy things to do. And this will create a real problem in the long run.

As one such “coder” I can tell you that there is a lot of uninteresting part of the job that be skipped, and also it’s pretty much the only thing those LLM powered things are actually god at. Do not let these things do the work though (“vibe code” is crap code). But they are a good assist.

AI should not be used to replace artists. AI should be used to gain time so there’s more time and money to let the artists make the art.

Brains are weird, and I caught myself correcting a point of grammar that was "English" in something that was written in French. I had an "avoir" in a construction that would work with "have" in English, where french uses "être" (be) 🫠

It is perplexing that, a sensitometer like the one described in the ISO6 standard for black and white camera film testing, seems to not exist. The ones that seems to exist are made for X-ray film testing Nobody makes a device that expose daylight spectrum? Ilford and Kodak, what do they even use?
