Happy to share our new paper published in Nature Communications! www.nature.com/articles/s41... We developed CaMPARI-seq to link neural activity with molecular profiles and revealed how the brain distinguishes optic flow to guide behavior. Congratulations to our postdoc Koji Matsuda!

Molecular and functional dissection using CaMPARI-seq reveals the neuronal organization for dissociating optic flow-dependent behaviors
Nature Communications - In this study, the authors develop CaMPARI-seq to link neural activity with molecular profiles in larval zebrafish. They identify inhibitory pretectal neurons required for...

New #medaka paper from @ewanbirney.bsky.social 🐟
Graphical summary from Birney Lab.

Medaka used to dissect the genetics of heart rate variation at different temperatures
•
16 QTLs linked to heart rate, with gene-by-environment and epistasis effects resolved
•
Gene editing confirmed four candidate genes affecting heart rate across temperatures
•
Simulations show how statistical model choice shapes GWAS discovery power

New paper out : "Synchronization of behavioral and cardiac dynamics in larval zebrafish" Here, we report a pretty striking relationship between behavioral state and heart rate in larval zebrafish, and then explore the mechanisms that lead to this coupling bit.ly/4ciYt3R

Spinal Projection Neurons in Larval Japanese Rice Fish Jackson Roberts (Lab of Florian Engert, Harvard University) Winning submission in the 2025 #HBIBeautyOftheBrain image contest. Visit brain.harvard.edu/beauty-of-th... to learn more. Click image for description.
This image shows neurons in the brain of a larval Japanese Rice Fish that transmit motor commands to the spinal cord. This was achieved by embedding a crystal of dye into the spinal cord and allowing the axons to carry dye to the brain. Color represents z-depth.
