I voted against the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill at second reading today. It still lacks safeguards for vulnerable people and doesn't fix the real issue: dignity and care at the end of life. I'll keep pushing for better palliative care and a fix to the Social Care crisis

Proud to sit behind a Foreign Secretary with the courage to ban settlement trade. 700,000 settlers, half a million Palestinians displaced, and E1 designed to bury a Palestinian state. Today Britain acted. I told him: hold firm.

No one should sleep on the streets. Today Labour announced £442m to get every rough sleeper a route off the streets by Christmas. Here in Bolton South and Walkden, groups like Urban Outreach and Mustard Tree do incredible work. Andy Burnham's first instruction as PM was to end rough sleeping.

Student loans were sold as an investment in young people's futures. For millions of graduates, they've become a tax on aspiration. I signed this cross-party letter urging the Chancellor to urgently review a system that saddles graduates with debt previous generations never faced.

Last week I really enjoyed visiting M&S Walkden and meeting with both Jodie and Store Manager Ashley. Great to hear about the Not Just Any Career programme, creating 1,000 training places for young people across the UK. Brilliant to see this kind of opportunity here in Walkden. bit.ly/4xky3pA

Last week I wrote to new Prime Minister to congratulate him on taking office and thank him for his longstanding support for #Primodos families. After 50+ years fighting for truth, the campaigners are asking him to meet us to discuss a genuinely independent review of evidence.

Bolton Council and Recycle for Greater Manchester have worked together to make some improvements, but we need a national strategy to work with recycling centres. It shouldn't take a campaign led by local people to fix basic problems like this.

This week I asked whether independent panels set up by Ministers, such as one for Primodos, will be covered by the statutory Duty of Candour and Duty to Assist. This matters for families still seeking truth after decades.
121
Yasmin Qureshi MP @yasminqureshimp.bsky.social · 16/07/2026
After decades of fighting for answers, it is vital that their voices continue to be heard in Parliament. I remain committed to working alongside the families until they receive the truth, accountability, and justice they deserve.

It meant a great deal to hear Andy Burnham recognise the tireless campaigning of the Primodos families during this week's debate on the Hillsborough Law as we passed this bill through the House of Commons.

The Minister's said that those listening need to be those with the power to make changes when its needed. Integrated Care Boards will be required to evidence how they have listened to feedback and what they have done, removing the separation between those who will listen and those who will act

Patients deserve a genuinely independent voice when NHS services fall short, not marking their own homework. In Parliament today, I pressed the Minister on what safeguards will protect patients in Bolton South & Walkden as Healthwatch functions transfer to integrated care boards & local authorities

Today marks 31 years since the massacre at Srebenica, part of the genocide committed against Bosnians. A few years ago I travelled to Bosnia to see first hand the scale of the horrors that took place there.

I’m deeply saddened to hear of Anne Widdecombe’s passing. Although we disagreed on many political issues, I respected the dedication and sacrifice she showed in caring for her mother in her later years. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this difficult time.

Andy Burnham made the same argument in The Times yesterday setting out how rebuilding our hard power can go hand in hand with reindustrialising communities that have lost opportunities in recent decades. It's a vision I strongly support. www.thetimes.com/article/d794...

Andy Burnham: We must rebuild Britain’s hard power to face a darker world
As prime minister, my priority will be protecting the UK by boosting defence spending, reviving local industry and strengthening our alliances

Yasmin Qureshi MP @yasminqureshimp.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
When I questioned the Minister on the Defence Investment Plan, my point was simple: it's not just about how much we spend on defence, but where that money goes. Every pound should also strengthen British industry and create jobs here at home.

Corridor care isn't just undignified. It's deadly. Last month, an average of 13 patients a day were treated in corridor spaces at the Royal Bolton Hospital. This is a national emergency, and it's time to end it for good. My speech in the Commons 👇 youtu.be/saQt72ICbQE

This is an incentive for drivers to be registered here in Bolton and Salford, rather than in Wolverhampton or Sefton, and it helps keep our air clean without the charging zone the last Tory government wanted to force on Greater Manchester!
020
Yasmin Qureshi MP @yasminqureshimp.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
The GMCA has just approved the grant scheme for Private Hire drivers, meaning that if your vehicle doesn't meat emissions standards, and you are registered as a driver in a Greater Manchester council, you can apply for a £2,500 grant to upgrade your vehicle.

Yasmin Qureshi MP @yasminqureshimp.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
Important news! Thanks to the work of Andy Burnham whilst he was Mayor of Greater Manchester, the Clean Air Zone was replaced with an investment led plan, meaning instead of charging drivers, the GMCA was going to invest in zero emission buses and help taxi drivers get compliant vehicles.

Today marks the anniversary of equal suffrage, and I am proud to stand as the 314th woman ever elected to Parliament. It is a privilege I do not take lightly. With just two years to go until we mark the centenary of equal franchise in 2028, we still have work to do.

Today the Vagrancy Act 1824 is repealed. Over 200 years of criminalising people for rough sleeping - gone. This Labour Government is investing £3.6bn through our National Plan to End Homelessness. Real support. Not punishment.

a symbolic moment for so many and vital to achieve a lasting peace in the Middle East. It is now up to MPs to ensure that whoever is nominated to be leader of the Labour Party is able to speak directly to the communities who didn’t feel that the government was listening to their concerns. (3/3)

I want to thank Keir for everything he has done. This Labour Government has worked hard to deliver some amazing changes, lifting children and families out of poverty; providing 30 hours free nursery provision, cutting NHS waiting times, passing the landmark Employment Rights (1/3)

Andy Burnham’s win wasn’t just local. It showed Labour can win big when we speak directly to the people we exist to serve. The PM should now set a clear timetable to go, so Labour can renew itself and deliver.

May’s results sent Labour a clear message: whilst we have made progress since the General Election, people want change faster, and more visibly. The Makerfield result showed the appetite is still there, for a Labour politics that’s ambitious, hopeful and focused on working people.

Remarkable that the Conservatives want to talk about defence. They cut real-terms spending by 22% and left our Armed Forces hollowed out by their own admission. Pitting welfare against security is wrong. I asked the Minister to ensure the Defence Investment Plan puts British jobs and industry first

14 million people in England can't get NHS dental care. People forced to pull their own teeth out. In one of the wealthiest nations in the world, that is not acceptable. I spoke in Parliament on the NHS dentistry crisis. There is progress, but it is a sticking plaster. We need urgent, lasting reform

Our children must be at the heart of online safety policy, not treated as an afterthought once decisions have already been made. Two thirds of children surveyed want risky features restricted online, and I am glad this Government is listening to them.

How will it work? Social media companies would be required to introduce stronger age verification checks and remove or restrict under-16 accounts once the rules come into force. Parliament will now consider this legislation, and there will be more detail in the months ahead.

But I also recognise that this is a significant change for young people and families across Bolton South and Walkden. Social media is part of everyday life, and any changes must be handled carefully and fairly.

Yasmin Qureshi MP @yasminqureshimp.bsky.social · 15/06/2026
I welcome the Government bringing this forward. Too many young people are exposed to harmful content, cyberbullying and online exploitation, and we cannot ignore the impact excessive social media use is having on mental health.
