I voted against the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill at second reading today. It still lacks safeguards for vulnerable people and doesn't fix the real issue: dignity and care at the end of life. I'll keep pushing for better palliative care and a fix to the Social Care crisis

Proud to sit behind a Foreign Secretary with the courage to ban settlement trade. 700,000 settlers, half a million Palestinians displaced, and E1 designed to bury a Palestinian state. Today Britain acted. I told him: hold firm.

Congratulations to all the students across Bolton South and Walkden who are picking up their GCSE results today! Whether you are going on to do A Levels, T Levels, an apprenticeship or something else entirely, we are all so proud of what you've achieved and can't wait to see where you go next!

No one should sleep on the streets. Today Labour announced £442m to get every rough sleeper a route off the streets by Christmas. Here in Bolton South and Walkden, groups like Urban Outreach and Mustard Tree do incredible work. Andy Burnham's first instruction as PM was to end rough sleeping.

Student loans were sold as an investment in young people's futures. For millions of graduates, they've become a tax on aspiration. I signed this cross-party letter urging the Chancellor to urgently review a system that saddles graduates with debt previous generations never faced.

Last week I really enjoyed visiting M&S Walkden and meeting with both Jodie and Store Manager Ashley. Great to hear about the Not Just Any Career programme, creating 1,000 training places for young people across the UK. Brilliant to see this kind of opportunity here in Walkden. bit.ly/4xky3pA

Last week I wrote to new Prime Minister to congratulate him on taking office and thank him for his longstanding support for #Primodos families. After 50+ years fighting for truth, the campaigners are asking him to meet us to discuss a genuinely independent review of evidence.

This week I asked whether independent panels set up by Ministers, such as one for Primodos, will be covered by the statutory Duty of Candour and Duty to Assist. This matters for families still seeking truth after decades.

It meant a great deal to hear Andy Burnham recognise the tireless campaigning of the Primodos families during this week's debate on the Hillsborough Law as we passed this bill through the House of Commons.

Patients deserve a genuinely independent voice when NHS services fall short, not marking their own homework. In Parliament today, I pressed the Minister on what safeguards will protect patients in Bolton South & Walkden as Healthwatch functions transfer to integrated care boards & local authorities

I’m deeply saddened to hear of Anne Widdecombe’s passing. Although we disagreed on many political issues, I respected the dedication and sacrifice she showed in caring for her mother in her later years. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this difficult time.

When I questioned the Minister on the Defence Investment Plan, my point was simple: it's not just about how much we spend on defence, but where that money goes. Every pound should also strengthen British industry and create jobs here at home.

Corridor care isn't just undignified. It's deadly. Last month, an average of 13 patients a day were treated in corridor spaces at the Royal Bolton Hospital. This is a national emergency, and it's time to end it for good. My speech in the Commons 👇 youtu.be/saQt72ICbQE

Important news! Thanks to the work of Andy Burnham whilst he was Mayor of Greater Manchester, the Clean Air Zone was replaced with an investment led plan, meaning instead of charging drivers, the GMCA was going to invest in zero emission buses and help taxi drivers get compliant vehicles.

Today marks the anniversary of equal suffrage, and I am proud to stand as the 314th woman ever elected to Parliament. It is a privilege I do not take lightly. With just two years to go until we mark the centenary of equal franchise in 2028, we still have work to do.

Today the Vagrancy Act 1824 is repealed. Over 200 years of criminalising people for rough sleeping - gone. This Labour Government is investing £3.6bn through our National Plan to End Homelessness. Real support. Not punishment.

I want to thank Keir for everything he has done. This Labour Government has worked hard to deliver some amazing changes, lifting children and families out of poverty; providing 30 hours free nursery provision, cutting NHS waiting times, passing the landmark Employment Rights (1/3)

May’s results sent Labour a clear message: whilst we have made progress since the General Election, people want change faster, and more visibly. The Makerfield result showed the appetite is still there, for a Labour politics that’s ambitious, hopeful and focused on working people.

Remarkable that the Conservatives want to talk about defence. They cut real-terms spending by 22% and left our Armed Forces hollowed out by their own admission. Pitting welfare against security is wrong. I asked the Minister to ensure the Defence Investment Plan puts British jobs and industry first

14 million people in England can't get NHS dental care. People forced to pull their own teeth out. In one of the wealthiest nations in the world, that is not acceptable. I spoke in Parliament on the NHS dentistry crisis. There is progress, but it is a sticking plaster. We need urgent, lasting reform

Our children must be at the heart of online safety policy, not treated as an afterthought once decisions have already been made. Two thirds of children surveyed want risky features restricted online, and I am glad this Government is listening to them.

Today Labour passes the Steel Nationalisation Bill. British Steel is coming into public ownership. For generations, previous governments left our steel industry to die. Capabilities declined. Production fell. Communities were abandoned.

Labour sets a legally binding 87% emissions reduction target by 2038-2042. Not a promise, a legal commitment. Energy independence means security, lower bills, and never being held hostage to fossil fuel markets. #ClimateAction #EnergyIndependence

Kemi Badenoch wants to ban pro-Palestine marches over Gaza, but defends Tommy Robinson’s “Unite the Kingdom” marches despite anti-Muslim abuse, hate-crime arrests and assaults on police. That is not principle. It is rank hypocrisy.
Kemi Badenoch has refreshed her backing of Keir Starmer's banning of some Unite the Kingdom speakers | GB NEWS
“That's why I say they should ban the pro-Palestinian marches. We've had enough of those.”

Despite this, Mrs Badenoch added the Unite the Kingdom rallies are “fine”.

She said: “Some people go there to cause trouble. I'm not a supporter of Tommy Robinson. I don't endorse him, but I don't think that there is an issue with that."

However, the Tory leader took issue with “some people agitating about foreigners coming to speak at that rally", adding: "I'm not here to speak for foreigners.
