A holiday by the Danube. Pools and beaches are fun, but a river is an entirely different experience.

I find it infinitely funny that an AI company has used to represent itself with Kurt Vonnegut's recurring illustration of an asshole in American classic novel, "Breakfast of Champions" (Also: yes, let them die)

So for safety I still often put my email texts through Deepl to avoid writing dodgy German . The problem is, German has different pronouns for singular and plural "you" and also a formal and an informal mode, so I got into the habit of writing "y'all" for plural and "you guys" for informal. :-)

So, I teach English (as a 2nd language) to a bunch of hyperactive 7th graders. Tthe Cotswolds in England came up in class, including Stratford (u.A.). So I just HAD TO ask them if they knew who the guy in the picture was. Surprisingly, some of them did! Someone said... (1/🧵)

The art Vs artist's hand. ✌🏻 Absolutely not my art, but the amazing Moebius' hand (well, a plaster cast) is on display in the kyoto Manga Museum (I was lucky to visit a good decade ago). Thought it would make others happy, too, to see it.

Moebius' illustration: a stunned man in a desert comes upon a floating monolith decorated with intricate alien patterns that form a number of serene faces.

A plaster cast of the artist's hand holding a pencil in a museum glass display cabinet.

Dragon's Heaven has crossed my feed so many times. Somehow I have the feeling the crew came together and decided to make an homage to as many of their SF heroes as they can squeeze into the runtime :-) The user's manual has a nice easter egg, too 🖖🏻

That's why you don't just ask Google translate to translate on word for you. Words need context and register, it's not a 1:1 exchange. This usually works the other way around too.

Who wants to see some wildcats? (Yes, they live in cages in a small wildcat reserve. 2 years back a storm broke down the walls. Some of them didn't even leave, the rest took a walk in the forest and were back for feeding time...)

It's all ludicrously obvious and transparent if viewed at a distance. Also, it all serves the channeling of funds from the state to private pockets - this is the palace Orban has built in the last few years. The regime is basically a heist, but it destroys a nation and now endangers others, too.

So, as promised (drumroll), the 12-year-old's fanart for @sarahreesbrennan.bsky.social 's Long Live Evil. The scanning doesn't do justice to the original colours and pencilwork, but y'all have to make do with that.

A colour-pencil picture of a black haired young lady in a gorgeous flowing dress, descending a staircase, with a snake twisting on her outheld right arm. In the background the title of the book, "Long Live Evil" is written in huge white letters.

I found this in the rented cottage. First of all, it's really cute, everything's better with otters. My mind first started to cheer for the little otter's successful coming out, then went on to blare a rendition of The Foo Fighters' Pretender with otterized lyrics.

A shampoo flask with a painted cute baby otter and the text "I'm not like the otters."

We've rented a cottage in the Czech Republic south of Prague for the weekend, it's a lovely spot, there's a brook running under the cliffside.

A great garden, some cottages in the background, beyond them a sunlit 20-30 metres high rock cliff with many trees.
