The defence has a long way to go to get back to the level it was under Lorne Donaldson at the 2023 World Cup. We still can't seem to deal with crosses and that worrying. Also, I'm concerned about Rebecca Spencer's form. If we do qualify I'd love to see her go on loan to get games ahead of the WC.

As long as they enforce the current rule I am fine.

Funny how some players act like Shaggy singing 'It Wasn't Me' even when they were obviously hair-pulling and it was caught on camera in 4K. Del Castillo, Vinicius Jr, and then Katie McCabe last season who said it wasn't on purpose. Shameless gaslighters 😅.

According to Sofascore, Bunny Shaw's ball-carrying against Mexico was a constant outlet for the Reggae Girlz, "with 11 ball carries and 104.1 metres of progressive distance, including a best single carry of 36.1 metres."

This goal by the Reggae Girlz against Mexico came after 33 passes. In the end, Chelsea goalkeeper Becky Spencer launched the ball to San Diego Wave right-back Mimi Van Zanten. She dribbled into the box and passed it to Kayla McKenna, who touched it on to Orlando Pride's Solai Washington for the goal

Bunny Shaw's goal for the Reggae Girlz against Mexico, made possible by Drew Spence stealing the ball from a Mexican player in midfield, and carrying it straight down the pitch before passing it to Bunny for the goal.

The Reggae Girlz opened the scoring against Mexico with this goal from Jody Brown. Look at the work from Bunny Shaw, collecting the ball in her own half and carrying it into the final third before passing it to Paige Bailey-Gayle, who delivers it to Jody for the tap-in.

I don't know of any official reason given but I would imagine it gives the teams a chance to adequately prepare after coming from the summer break. This way they don't have to go straight into the final round, but have a window in which to get some final preparation work done.

The Reggae Girlz' goals in their win over Mexico came from Jody Brown (Marseille), Bunny Shaw (Manchester City), Deneisha Blackwood (Toluca), and Solai Washington (Orlando Pride). Mexico's goals came from Lizbeth Ovalle (Orlando Pride), Rebeca Bernal (Manchester United), and Charlyn Corral (Pachuca)

I don't rat the coach normally, but the way he is using Bunny today is brilliant. For three years now I've believed we could use her deeper like that. Most people forget she started in college as a midfielder.

That's why even though I like Kiki on the wing, I would move her to midfield in this Reggae Girlz team, because she can play that role well, too. And we need quality there. She is a workhorse for Houston Dash in both attacking and defending.

Yardie Ball @yardieball.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Also, if Nikayla Small is not injured, then its crazy that he left her out of the squad. Because among our midfielders, Sade Adamolekun has played very little in Liga F of late. Jade Bailey has not impressed in midfield for us so far. Our midfield is weak, but Small is doing well for AFC Toronto.

And the qualifiers we have played against teams, most of them levels below us, have been unspectacular, even though we got the wins. So, it is concerning. I'm hoping Busby starts our best players from the top-tier leagues, because they can make a difference despite the coaching shortcomings.

Yardie Ball @yardieball.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
We have players who individually can make a good game of it. But from the perspective of the coaching, I have seen nothing over the past few years that has improved us as a team. The games we have played against teams better than us have been abysmal these past few years.

Yardie Ball @yardieball.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
This is the Reggae Girlz team I would put out tonight if it were up to me. Every one of these players is playing or has played in a top-tier league of quality. There are other Reggae Girlz in the squad doing well at their clubs, but not at the highest tier of football. That gap matters at this level.

Yardie Ball @yardieball.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I look forward to an improvement. I hate to see a team struggling because it failed to do what was necessary to succeed. I thought in the past that they brought in some quality players who were always good enough to keep me watching. But they needed more to make that big step forward.

Yui Hasegawa is a City player who has a better chance of winning it this year because of her Asian Cup title with Japan, in addition to the two City trophies.

I really hope Vlatko improves things for Chicago. Because up to now, sending good players there has been like throwing them into the void.

Best striker in the world? Yes. No conversation. Best player in the world? Ballon d'Or? Conversations to be had about that. Manchester City Women not yet achieving anything in Europe, and the Reggae Girlz underperforming since the last World Cup, limit our ability to win that argument.

Seeing Deyna Castellano getting criticism from Tigres fans for lacklustre performances. IMO, since her time at City, followed by her time in the NWSL, her performances have not been impressive. But the talk has always been more about her talent and not so much her record. That may be changing now.

After the rumour a few months ago that Kiki Van Zanten had rejected multiple contract extensions from the Houston Dash, she has signed a multi-year contract extension. To be honest, I've grown to like watching the club while following her progress. I'm fine with this development.

Bailey is now at Olympiacos in Greece. Butler raised him and carried him and his other son Kyle to Europe when they were teenagers for their football development, enduring some rough times. Phoenix is seen as the best academy Jamaica has to offer. but opinions on Butler are often divided.

Thanks for sharing! Haven't seen it in the news here yet. Chapleton Maroons and Phoenix Academy are owned by Craig Butler, a controversial figure in Jamaican football who is often at odds with the JFF(Jamaica Football Federation). Leon Bailey, formerly of Aston Villa, is his adopted son.

Jamaican striker Natasha Thomas registered a goal for Wrexham in their 3-2 defeat at the hands of The New Saints FC in the Welsh Adran Premier Women. The 30-year-old has been called up to represent Jamaica in the Reggae Girlz' upcoming October friendlies against Mexico.

My problem is not so much about the opinions. People will have their own opinions. My problem is with the time they give to covering the other clubs as you pointed out. That's really where I have a problem with the bias. You can have your bias and opinions, and still be fair to everyone.
120
Yardie Ball @yardieball.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
So true. The bias is too much. It's very frustrating. If you look at the game yesterday between Arsenal and Manchester City Women, the narratives coming out of it are mostly about Arsenal.

Reggae Girl Kayla Mckenna (left) scored two goals while her Jamaican teammate Paige Bailey-Gayle (right) registered two assists as they both helped Grasshopper Club Zürich to a 4-1 win, ending FC Zurich's unbeaten run in the Swiss Women's Super league this season. Manchester City Women came from a goal down twice to win this game. We find a way. Bunny Shaw had a bad game. We still won. Because we are not a one-woman team. Andree Jeglertz changed another game with his substitutions. The Lauren Hemp masterclass continues. We don't listen to the noise.

The player she passed to had Zigiotti right on top of her. Maybe Keating didn't see Zigiotti because she was almost directly behind the Liverpool player. That's possible. But as a City fan I have seen that reel many times. No shame in booting it high and over. But that wouldn't be "brave" football.

Gareth Taylor took that style of play to Liverpool, so Khiara won't be unlearning any of it any time soon. It's a stress the fans of teams like City and Liverpool just have to learn to live with. But you never learn to control the panic when your goalkeeper has the ball at her feet under pressure.

Yardie Ball @yardieball.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Khiara Keating is a talented goalkeeper but mistakes like the one in the first half that led to United's goal are holding her back. It's not her fault. She was indoctrinated to play those risky passes when she was at City. Yamashita, at City, takes the same risks but gets away with them more.
