Yeah, except that particular story isn't about Guilfloyle, but rather the larger story of WH self enrichment. WSJ has reworded the headline somewhat, so slightly better, but doesn't seem to want to point fingers at the White House. They're using Democrats as an intermediary.

Watching The Post (2017, Stephen Spielberg). Thinking it hits harder than it did on initial release. #Filmsky
Poster for the movie The Post (2017, Stephen Spielberg). Endless concrete steps of the sort one sees in Washington D.C. form a grey background. Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks (as Katherine Graham and Ben Bradlee) ascend the steps from the bottom right corner. The Post, in san serif, is knocked out on the bottom left corner.

Looks like Jan 6 is covered.
What occurred in Washington D.C. on January 6, 2021

January 6, 2021 in Washington, D.C.

According to U.S. Department of Justice statements of facts used in Capitol cases:

Congress met in a joint session at the U.S. Capitol to certify the Electoral College count for the 2020 presidential election. The session began about 1:00 p.m. Vice President Mike Pence presided.
The Capitol’s exterior plaza was closed to the public. Only authorized people with identification were allowed inside.
A crowd later entered the Capitol without authorization. Some people assaulted officers. Members of the House and Senate, including the Vice President, were told to evacuate around 2:20 p.m.
The joint session was suspended until shortly after 8:00 p.m., after the building was secured. Proceedings then resumed.
Source: repeated Department of Justice statements of facts, for example justice.gov statement of facts.

I do not offer political commentary on these events. Official charging documents and court records are on justice.gov.

America doesn't make the call about Hatch Act violations. 🤷🏽‍♀️
America.gov

Menu

The Trump White House put out a political advertisement on September 27, 2026 that says Paid for by the U.S. government. Isn't this a violation of the Hatch act?

I cannot say whether a specific advertisement violates the Hatch Act. That determination is made by the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC), not by America.

Hatch Act (what it covers)

The Hatch Act limits partisan political activity by most executive-branch federal employees. Covered employees generally may not:

Use official authority or influence to affect an election

Engage in political activity while on duty, in a federal workplace, in uniform, or in a government vehicle

Solicit, accept, or receive political contributions

OSC is the agency that investigates and enforces the Hatch Act. See OSC's Hatch Act pages:

Federal employee Hatch Act information and Hatch Act FAQs . A CRS overview is here: The Hatch Act: A Primer.

The President and Vice President are treated differently from most federal employees under Hatch Act coverage. I did not find an OSC ruling on the September 2026 advertisement you describe.

David Ellison letter to Paramount staff with alt text. It's long, so continues in second image.
Just a few moments ago, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, on behalf of himself and 11 other State AGs, announced a settlement that clears the path forward on the lawsuit blocking our merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. We have also reached a settlement with the Writers Guild of America.

With both groups' concerns now addressed, we have complete clearance for this merger and can move toward closing. There's still work ahead to get this deal across the finish line, but we're excited to bring these two iconic companies together, as it means more opportunity for our creatives, production crews and employees across the business, and more great entertainment for audiences everywhere.

We're grateful to Attorney General Bonta and his fellow AGs, and to the WGA, for engaging in good faith to reach this resolution. The agreement includes a number of commitments, including 30+ films annually and expanded U.S. film production - meant to help revitalize our industry and support the people behind it, here at home. Since we launched this bid, our goal has been to build a stronger Hollywood: more stories told, greater choice for consumers, stronger competition. Combining these companies gives us the opportunity to do just that.

This is an exciting moment for our company and our industry. If you're like me, you're in this business because you love the art of visual storytelling - the chance to entertain, unite and inspire the world through extraordinary stories. Together, Paramount and WBD can do more of that, for audiences everywhere. And we can't wait to get started.I know you have questions about what happens next - your role, your team and how we will work day to day. We don't have all the answers yet, and I won't pretend otherwise. We are tentatively planning to close in approximately two weeks. That said, closing is really just the starting line. Bringing two companies this size together takes time, and we'll share information as it becomes available. In the meantime, if you have questions or concerns, please visit the Integration Hub, reach out to your manager or HR representative, or email internalcomms@paramount.com.

Thank you for your patience, commitment and hard work throughout this process. I know it's created real uncertainty, and for some of you, real anxiety - that's not lost on me. Our people are what make this company one of the best in the world, and I'm truly grateful for your dedication and support. I'm confident we're going to build something special together in the years ahead.

Let's go!

David

TALARICO ★ FOR TEXAS *

Robert

For the last several months there has been plenty of talk about Elon Musk - the world's first trillionaire spending more than $100 million to influence elections across the country... including here in Texas.

The bad news is ... it's happening.

Earlier today we learned that his spending is underway, and there's no telling how high the amount will go.

I am going to be direct about what this means:

We are at the point in the campaign where we are spending money faster than we are raising it. That's normal. But when a Ken Paxton super PAC pumps in an unexpected $15 million and Elon Musk starts spending, it means we have to raise more or we risk losing our lead.

So if Elon Musk trying to buy this election makes you angry, here's something you can do about it:

Please make a contribution directly to my campaign for U.S. Senate in Texas today. Our average online donation is around $30. Many_give more. Some give less. I am just hoping we can rack up a huge number of donations today in response to Elon Musk's spending.

"You are all that matters to me," she wrote in one of the letters, which were seen by The New York Times. The letters' authenticity was confirmed by two people with direct knowledge of them.

"I don't ever want to let you down," Ms. Harp wrote, thanking Mr. Trump for being her "Guardian and Protector in this Life."

In another letter, she told Mr. Trump that she wanted to get back to "that synergy" she used to have with him, where "we'd talk about everything and nothing."

"I want to bring you joy," she wrote, "to feel like we can get through a day without ever having to talk 'work."

At the White House, Ms. Harp is likely to serve a role unlike any presidential adviser in modern history.

from Muskism by Quinn Slobodian and Ben Tarnoff, with alt text
Treating life like a game had its own ethos and its own philosophers. In a theory often cited by Musk, Nick Bostrom speculates that we may be living in a simulation running on a mainframe in the future. 49 Further, many of the people around us may not be human beings but computer programs: what Bostrom calls "shadow-people," convincing imitations that lack interiority. The ethical consequences are significant. If we are surrounded by shadow people, then appeals to empathy are not moral imperatives but manipulative code. The rational response is to steel yourself against humanitarian sentiment. The economist Robin Hanson came to this conclusion in a famous article called "How to Live in a Simulation" in 2001. "If you might be living in a simulation," he wrote, "then all else equal it seems that you should care less about others."51

Shadow people have been a bright line through Musk's career. At PayPal, they were fraudsters with false identities; at Twitter, first bots, then the far-fetched notion of "ghost employees"-the belief that many of the people on the payroll were not actually real humans. 52 Musk also expressed this idea through the concept of the NPC. Biden was "an NPC with a limited dialogue tree"; 53 the press a "hivemind"54 or "drone collective"5" of "NPC media puppets."56 He shared the meme of a head being opened to swap out a chip reading "Tesla good" for one reading "Tesla bad." The caption: "New program for the NPCs."5" "Individuals should always wonder who wrote the software running in their head," he commented. 58 "Most humans have very limited firewalls," he elaborated elsewhere, "so are easily programmed."59

Honestly, that remains an debate. Suffice to say that their explorations overlapped. The Treaty of Tordesillas shows how they saw the world. Spain and Portugal literally divided the world between themselves.
Map of the Treaty of Tordesilla
Spain gets most of the Americas except Bazil & Greenland. Portugal gets Brazil, Greenland, all of Europe, excluding Spain, but including Russia. They split Australia.

@DropSiteNews

Yesterday our post on Politico's reporting on the sexual assault allegations against Graham Platner was intended to summarize reporting Ryan Grim discussed on Breaking Points regarding details Politico omitted from its story. The language of our post left the impression that text messages by Platner's accuser Jenny Racicot are relevant to whether she was raped or in any way justify the alleged assault she described. That was not the intention and is not the position of Drop Site or Ryan. We genuinely value the feedback and criticism we have received from many readers and have deleted the post.

MORE PERFECT UNION

More Perfect Union

@MorePerfectUS

The Trump administration approved three new "forever chemical"-based pesticides last week for use on food crops, including corn and soybeans - the most widely grown crops in the country - as well as wheat, kiwi, oats, peas, broccoli and coffee. -

These new chemicals - diflufenican, epyrifenacil, trifludimoxazin -have all been quietly approved without a standard press release.

Trump approved other PFAS-based pesticides cyclobutrifluram and isocycloseram earlier this year, and the first food use of chlormequat -which is already found in 90% of Americans' blood.

An EPA scientist wrote in the approval documents that at least one of these new PFAS-based pesticides is "suggestive evidence of carcinogenic potential."

These approvals come just days after the Supreme Court sided with chemical maker Bayer and the Trump administration in limiting Americans' ability to sue pesticide companies for harms linked to pesticides.

Now, Americans will have a harder time holding companies accountable for the cancer-causing effects of their pesticides.

End Citizens United Rescinds Endorsement of Graham Platner and Calls on Him to Withdraw from the Race

End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller issued the following statement rescinding the organization's endorsement of Graham Platner and calling on him to drop out of the race in light of Politico's reporting alleging sexual assault:

"Today, End Citizens United is rescinding its endorsement of Maine U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner and calling on him to immediately withdraw from the race.

"The allegations reported today are profoundly disturbing and disqualifying. The conduct described is fundamentally inconsistent with the standards we expect from the candidates we support. No candidate, elected official, or political party is exempt from accountability.

"It takes immense bravery to speak out in such a high-profile case, and we offer our full support to Jenny Racicot for sharing her story. We stand in solidarity with her and all the courageous women who have come forward to hold Graham accountable.

"We believe the best path forward for Maine Democrats is to move quickly to nominate a candidate who can earn voters' trust and who will center their campaign on ethical leadership, accountability, and fighting corruption. The people of Maine deserve a candidate whose commitment to public service and integrity is beyond question and whose campaign can focus on the issues that matter most to them.

"For years, ECU has fought to hold Senator Collins accountable and to challenge the corruption and abuses of power that have harmed our democracy. We have always believed that character matters, integrity matters, and accountability matters. Those principles must be applied equally."

2.7 Why Capitalism Rocks!

Lecturer: Mike Whalen (Pres. and CEO, Heart of America)

This presentation will discuss the human and economic reasons why capitalism not only works but rocks, providing superior benefits to humanity in comparison to all other eco-nomic systems. The lengthy and rather miserable history of almost all human existence will be briefly explored. This long period of pretty crappy stasis was followed by an ex-plosion of wealth and freedom in just the past few hundred years. This explosive launch, often termed "The Great Enrichment", is the most dynamic thing that has happened in human history. It has elevated and liberated, in a relatively very short time, a good deal of humankind out of the mud and from crippling disease, grinding subsistence, short life spans, and general misery, and it continues to do so for millions of people every year.

This pro human explosion was a result of the growth of the radical concept of personal liberty and its companion free market capitalism.

The reason why capitalism generally makes humans better people and why capitalism is more fun will be explored. The inherent inferior structural dynamics of the dominant competing economic models, alternatively termed collectivism, authoritarianism, Marx-ism, fascism, and communism according to its variants of large state control, will be dis-cussed as well.

Statement from Lise Klaveness: The Norwegian Football Association (NFF) supports UEFA's statement expressing serious concern over FIFA's handling of the case involving U.S. player Folarin Balogun. The player received a straight red card in the Round of 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina at the FIFA World Cup.

Under Article 10.5 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Regulations, this automatically triggers a one-match suspension. Such a suspension is not subject to appeal.

When FIFA nevertheless clears the player to participate in the next match without providing any explanation, there is reason for concern regarding the integrity of the competition, political interference in sporting matters, and the credibility of football.

NFF agrees with UEFA's position that an automatic suspension of at least one match following a red card is not subject to subsequent discretionary review. This principle is clearly established in FIFA's own regulations. We disagree with FIFA's interpretation that Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code allows the politically elected Disciplinary Committee to overturn an automatic suspension in this manner. It is particularly troubling that this has been done without any transparency regarding the committee's assessment or reasoning. This represents a serious intervention in the fundamental rules governing the competition. It is therefore important that FIFA now provides full transparency about the circumstances and rationale behind such an extraordinary decision.

This is about more than tonight's Round of 16 match between the United States and Belgium. It is about the integrity of football as a whole and the protection of the fundamental principles of fair play, both at the FIFA World Cup and across the world's biggest sport.

A terrified Bongino told Tucker that Trump shut down the Butler investigation himself.

Tucker says he accidentally obtained the Thomas Crooks social media posts the FBI claimed didn't exist, then called Kash Patel and Dan Bongino looking for answers.

Bongino, a friend of many years, allegedly became hysterical before finally telling him to take it up with Trump, who he said killed the Butler investigation himself.

Tucker says he still has every text exchange.

The combination of a fast-moving virus-fatal in up to 50% of cases-and a region rife with armed fighters has made an already difficult task of controlling the epidemic even harder, according to health experts.

The local Islamic State franchise, which originated in neighboring Uganda, has killed more than 4,000 people over the past six years in attacks on churches, villages and other locations, according to estimates by the U.S.-based Bridgeway Foundation, a nonprofit which tracks militant activity in East and Central Africa. The U.S. State Department designated the insurgents a global terrorist group in 2021.

This past weekend, militants attacked the village of Babila Babombi, where they killed seven people and torched dozens of houses, Congo's military said. The United Nations said Tuesday that militants had killed some 170 people last month in attacks in Ituri Province, epicenter of both the epidemic and the insurgency.

The group's leader, Musa Baluku, runs its operations from Mambasa, according to Africa Security Analysis, a think tank based in Sweden. Ugandan troops deployed to combat Islamic State have made some headway but been unable to stamp out the insurgents.

Amid the violence, some 4,300 people have been exposed to Bundibugyo in three affected provinces, Congo's Health Ministry said Wednesday. The International Rescue Committee, a New York-based charity that supports displaced people, says that is likely an underestimate, with the number of people exposed perhaps five times that number.

Dear Mr. Pelley:

I meant what I said in my letter last week to the 60 Minutes team: joining 60 Minutes is the honor of my career and I am grateful to be working alongside the people who have contributed to the most important television journalism brand this country has ever produced. While I'm new to 60 Minutes, I've devoted my career to investigative journalism and storytelling. I started this job excited to collaborate and to benefit from the wisdom and experience of the 60 Minutes veterans, with you among them. For that reason, one of the first things I did in my new role was call you to talk and invite you to dinner. It is a profound disappointment that you rejected that overture and chose ambush instead. Yesterday, you hijacked my first meeting with staff to disparage me, my qualifications, and my intentions with remarkable incivility and contempt. I welcome a diversity of viewpoints and respectful debate among the team, but this was nothing of the sort. Yesterday's performative display of hostility-enacted in front of the staff instead of in a civil, private conversation-demonstrated that you have no interest in contributing to the future success of the show, or approaching my new tenure with a mind open to collaboration and progress. I am here to deliver first-in-class news programming, not to make headlines about newsroom drama. I am eager to work alongside those who share this goal.

Despite yesterday's misconduct, I had hoped that in sitting down with you today we could find a path forward together. You made clear that you are not interested in such a path.

Your antipathy to the future of the show has come through loud and clear. And I have heard you. I therefore write on behalf of CBS News, Inc. ("CBS") to inform you that your employment with CBS is terminated for cause effective immediately. Enclosed is your formal termination letter.

Sincerely,

Nick Bilton

I would like to talk to you and clear the air. I will not be performing at the Great American State Fair on June 25th. I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event but that turned out to be misleading. I asked lots of questions and was assured this was a nonpartisan event that was meant to celebrate ALL 50 states. In my mind I thought this was a great way to celebrate the states and also bring people together in the way that only music can. I saw it as just a bigger version of so many state fairs I have performed at over the years, celebrating community and what makes each state special. Sounds fun, right? Wholesome even. Yesterday things started changing and what we were told is, in fact, not what is happening.

I've spent my entire career singing songs about real people with real issues. I've been blessed with the opportunity to be a voice for those who have felt like they didn't have one. It greatly upsets me that any fan who has been moved by my music may now feel like I'm abandoning the meaning behind those songs. I assure you, that is not the case. I appreciate every single fan who has reached out. I hope to get back to the DC area very soon.

What a DESPICABLE guy Hegseth is. Frustrated that he can't remove his Real Nemesis, the Army Secretary, He Fires the NAVY Secretary, has him "walked out of the building" by security. But this was NOT an Urgent matter. Could have given the SECNAV a month, maybe 2 weeks notice. You know, The DECENT thing to do. Instead this Insecure FAKE, who Lied and Conned his way thru Life (see Mom) and the Trump admin (see 'confidential settlement' ie Blackmail of accuser #1) Blows up Someone Else's life bc he can't Handle his own. Not CUTE anymore.

Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy. He talks about "fear" of the Trump Administration, but doesn't mention the FEAR that the Catholic Church, and all other Christian Organizations, had during COVID when they were arresting priests, ministers, and everybody else, for holding Church Services, even when going outside, and being ten and even twenty feet apart. I like his brother Louis much better than I like him, because Louis is all MAGA. He gets it, and Leo doesn't! I don't want a Pope who thinks it's OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon. I don't want a Pope who thinks it's terrible that America attacked Venezuela, a Country that was sending massive amounts of Drugs into the United States and, even worse, emptying their prisons, including murderers, drug dealers, and killers, into our Country. And I don't want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States because I'm doing exactly what I was elected, IN A LANDSLIDE, to do, setting Record Low Numbers in Crime, and creating the Greatest Stock Market in History. Leo should be thankful because, as everyone knows, he was a shocking surprise. He wasn't on any list to be Pope, and was only put there by the Church because he was an American, and they thought that would be the best way to deal with President Donald J. Trump. If I wasn't in the White House, Leo wouldn't be in the Vatican. Unfortunately, Leo's Weak on Crime, Weak on Nuclear Weapons, does not sit well with me, nor does the fact that he meets with Obama Sympathizers like David Axelrod, a LOSER from the Left, who is one of those who wanted churchgoers and clerics to be arrested. Leo should get his act together as Pope, use Common Sense, stop catering to the Radical Left, and focus on being a Great Pope, not a Politician. It's hurting him very badly and, more importantly, it's hurting the Catholic Church!

President DONALD J. TRUMP

I concur with Lewis Parker. This is incredibly fucked up. #AI
Also, hey, Esquire: maybe you shouldn’t have published the bit where AI Mackenyu talks about the pressures of living up to his deceased father, the legendary action star Sonny Chiba, and how it wants “to make him proud,” because that’s incredibly fucked up.

MY VIEW BEN RAY LUJÁN

Trump wants to rig the election: I'm fighting back

I'll never forget one of my first days in the U.S. Senate. On Jan. 6, 2021, rioters stormed the Capitol after President Donald Trump refused to accept the truth that he lost the 2020 election. Today, that same refusal to accept the will of the people is driving his latest attempt to rig our elections through the Republicans' so-called SAVE Act.

This is part of his broader strategy to hold onto power.

Trump told Republicans to "find" more House seats, claiming they are "entitled" to them. After pushing redistricting across the country and threatening lawmakers who stand in his way, he is now trying to rewrite the rules of our elections to lock in power.

The SAVE Act is designed to save Republicans from facing American voters. They know their agenda isn't working. Costs are up. Health care is more expensive. Trump launched a war with Iran.

They think that if fewer people can vote, they can hang on to their power in Congress.

This bill would make it harder for millions of eligible Americans to register to vote.

It would eliminate online and mail registration. It would force people to register in person, no matter how far they live or how hard it is to get there. And, it would reject IDs Americans use every day, including tribal IDs and even military IDs.

Trump wants control of our elections. He said, "We should take over the voting," and that passing the SAVE Act means that Republicans will "never lose a race in 50 years."

We know who he is targeting.

Tribal communities would be among the hardest hit. Many tribal IDs do not include a place of birth, which this bill would require. That means Native voters could be blocked from registering, even when they are fully eligible.

Hispanic communities would face new barriers as well. Naturalized citizens could be forced to track down documents that many people don't have easy access to. Young…

My response to your question was that it didn't matter. I assumed you'd realized that since he won, the point was moot. Prior to that the only comment I made was to someone else about the Late Show. Only you know why you responded with this.

It doesn't really matter does it?

Why doesn't it matter? Are you taking your red wagon and going after leaving shit sentiments behind to poison the well?
