Yannick Wurm @yannickwurm.bsky.social · 16/07/2026Could a £50,000,000 experimental evolution experiment set us up to think differently about evolutionary biology? To enable a shift from a (largely) retrospective mindset to one of forecasting evolutionary changes? 132

Yannick Wurm @yannickwurm.bsky.social · 30/06/2026Could we get reliable medium-term evolutionary forecasting for eukaryotes? What type of physics-scale experiment could change how we think about predicting evolution? Yannick Wurm @yannickwurm.bsky.social · 20/03/2026The level of demand we saw is shaping how we think about seed funding in this space going forward. If you applied: thank you. The quality and ambition we saw reinforce a simple point: the UK is an exceptional place for Engineering Ecosystem Resilience work, and our field has real momentum. 000
Yannick Wurm @yannickwurm.bsky.social · 20/03/2026Many proposals we couldn't fund were, frankly, as strong as some we did. Even with an intentionally light-touch application process (short online form, no formal costings or institutional sign-off), I know applications take time, and I want the process to feel genuinely worthwhile for applicants. 100
Yannick Wurm @yannickwurm.bsky.social · 20/03/2026We could only fund a small number of projects. That’s because ARIA actively manages every project we fund, helping teams to problem-solve, remove blockers, and navigate pathways to impact. Honouring that commitment requires a highly focused portfolio. 100
Yannick Wurm @yannickwurm.bsky.social · 20/03/2026Many proposals were genuinely aligned with ARIA’s “edge of the possible” mission: ambitious, thoughtful, with great teams and potential outcomes. This clearly signals that the UK has the people, skills, + ambition to lead the field, + to create an Engineering Ecosystem Resilience toolkit and economy 100
Yannick Wurm @yannickwurm.bsky.social · 20/03/2026We just completed our first round of opportunity seed funding for the Engineering Ecosystem Resilience space. This is a new field for @aria-research.bsky.social , and one that set a new record for numbers of seed applications. 100
