@soccomproject.bsky.social @bgc-argo.bsky.social @globaloceanbgc.bsky.social 🌊The commentary by Dove et al (bit.ly/4fd2whZ) on the future of Argo comes at a critical moment for US Argo. GO-BGC, the major US BGC-Argo project funded by NSF completes all float deployments in 3 months. 1/3
A map of latest location of all 580 BGC-Argo floats with 5 or 6 BGC sensors (O2, nitrate, pH, chlorophyll, backscatter, irradiance) that have reported in the last 30 days. 481 of these sensors were deployed by US programs.

"Argo Floats, Research Vessels, Moored Buoys, Underwater Gliders...each platform answers questions the others cannot." "More than climate monitoring...data are used for weather and harvest forecasts, cyclone tracking, marine heatwave warnings, sea-level projections..." 🧪🌊🦑

🌊 New paper alert! For the first time from space, two NASA missions enable us to observe plankton community composition alongside the physical processes that structure it. 🛰️ 🦠 🌀 Check it out from @tosoceanography.bsky.social: doi.org/10.5670/ocea...

Nearing the end of semester two at Georgia Tech, and I am so grateful this team who does awesome science. As our group keeps growing, I will always value the work each of them - one amazing postdoc (@yangx309.bsky.social) and the spectacular GATO “undergrad army” - did to help get us off the ground.

Thursday at #OSM26, I’ll be sharing our (with my team at @imas-utas.bsky.social ) work on a new approach for describing how sea ice retreat timing impact the spring bloom phenology and thus carbon cycle in the Weddell Sea by using data from @bgc-argo.bsky.social . See you at poster OB44K-0568!
Chla phenologies and climatologies’ means grouped differently according to sea ice retreat times.

Fresh off the preprint server! @maratimes.bsky.social and I show how data from the overlapping SWOT and PACE satellite missions present a step forward in our ability to observe linked biogeochemical-physical processes in the ocean. We look forward to chatting about this with folks at #OSM2026! 🌊

1️⃣ Antarctic sea ice during winter didn’t use to change very much from year to year. But in recent winters, the extent of ice has crashed to unusually low levels. Which begs the question: what controls how much sea ice can form in winter? 🌊 plot by @edoddridge.bsky.social

Climate engineering would alter the oceans, reshaping marine life – our new study examines each method’s risks
Some methods being tried to counter climate change shift the ocean’s biology or chemistry. Others would deflect solar radiation. All have consequences for marine life.
