Ward zum Sonntag. #refederate #community #FedWiki
As Mastodon and its kin struggle with "defederation" we hope to "refederate". As the wiki where everyone owns there own data, and only by forking from the creative commons to we have any sense of a community.

Ward comments on a recent #FedWiki issue, after the CoffeeScript conversion has been completed. Removing the #jQuery dependency is the next target. github.com/fedwiki/wiki-server/issu…
Ward Cunningham wrote 2 days ago:

I am in favor of simplifying our core javascript. I see no point in making lots of changes unless we have established a new direction. Since we have now completed a two year conversion away from CoffeeScript, I feel jQuery should be our next target. Simpler is our new direction.

The importance of Sovereign Tech exemplified by the @sovtechfund with help from #Cloudflare on the day of the #digitalgipfel about #digitalesouveränität . The most funny thing is that it makes it appear as if the #SovereignTechFund did something wrong. And maybe they did, by choosing Cloudflare?

In a world where people lend towards the idea of attributing agency to a system, @bret rectifies our expectations by reminding us of ourselves in the game: "We are also uncomfortable with the mindset that accompanies owning servants." See this and more […] [Original post on degrowth.social]
Many current AI systems adopt an agent-like posture, where users are encouraged to converse directly with the system as if it were an “assistant” or “servant”. In our view, reliance on agents detracts from opportunities to deepen relationships with real people. [Emphasised:] We are also uncomfortable with the mindset that accompanies owning servants.

#DuckDuckGo making science more accessible in partnership with #SciHub.
A screenshot of the search engine results from DuckDuckGo when looking up a DOI. One result is shown that points the reader directly towards SciHub.

#FedWiki sitemap scrape statistics ward.asia.wiki.org/assets/pages/sit…
Two graphs, one above the other.

First: scan pages.

The x axis shows the years from 2016 throughout now.

The y axis shows 50k and 100k markers.

The plotted graph begins around 37k and grows steadily until end of 2024 by a good 100k pages. A spike shows that scanning the federation was off for a while and only came back when another few tens of thousands of pages had been added within only a few months.

Second: index sites.

The x axis is the same.

The y axis begins around 850 and has ticks at 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000.

The plotted graph grows steadily towards 3200 until now.

#ZFS crowd, what are you most excited about for 2.3.0? Am unable to decide between Direct IO for NVMes or #JSON output for most commands, which is something ... like an #API? Well, #RAIDZ expansion will have its use for many and long names sounds exciting for large deeply nested music collections.
zfs-2.3.0-rc3

Repository: openzfs/zfs · Tag: zfs-2.3.0-rc3 · Commit: 1a54b13 · Released by: behlendorf

We are excited to announce the third release candidate (RC3) of OpenZFS 2.3.0.
Key Features in OpenZFS 2.3.0 RC3:

RAIDZ Expansion (#15022): Add new devices to an existing RAIDZ pool, increasing storage capacity without downtime.
Fast Dedup (#15896): A major performance upgrade to the original OpenZFS deduplication functionality.
Direct IO (#10018): Allows bypassing the ARC for reads/writes, improving performance in scenarios like NVMe devices where caching may hinder efficiency.
JSON (#16217): Optional JSON output for the most used commands.
Long names (#15921): Support for file and directory names up to 1023 characters.
Bug Fixes: A series of critical bug fixes addressing issues reported in previous versions.
    Supported Platforms:
        Linux kernels 4.18 - 6.11,
        FreeBSD releases 13.3, 14.0, and 14.1.
