Good, isn't it? A really rich culture. I'm sure they all had a great time in those circles... they're probably all riding to the allotments now like us😆. Someone should track them down & do a documentary, although that'd be against the spirit of what they were/probably still are about.

No worries. I didn't express myself very well. Cos his bike is custom, I would've thought he'd have had the frame fillet brazed but he didn't. He chose TIG & didn't care. The TIG welding is faster, so it's kinda DIY. For aluminium & stainless, TIG is necessary. I'm with you on rich kids talking...

I've been priced out of the Ciocc. The guy says he's been offered $500 for it & wants to hold out for more. I think he advertised it at a low price to drum up interest & start a bidding war. I thought it was suspiciously low to be honest & even wondered if it had been nicked! 😆 Oh well, it happens.

That's a serious bike as well, right? Hand built steel. Riding it for 17 years. I love that he says it was TIG welded & doesn't give a shit (TIG's for aluminium & stainless as I'm sure you know). Kind of custom + DIY. Great stuff.

Hi @dilaedathon.bsky.social ! It's been a while. I live on a steep hill in an area of Tokyo that's known for rolling hills with flat sections in the valleys. At 1st I couldn't get up my hill on the Fuji, but now I can. I get off & push when I'm tired or it's too steep. Get out there on that s-s!😂👍🚴

I have no time for stats or maps😆. It's about simplicity & riding the bikes. I know where I went, roughly how far & roughly how steep a climb was. I know roughly how fast I rode downhill. I need a shirt, pants & shoes & sometimes a helmet.😂👍

@psykoling.bsky.social I honestly think everyone should try track bike riding, fixed gear or freewheel. The bikes are exquisite. So simple to maintain & good looking. The riding is so responsive. They're ideal for city riding. People are missing out.

I call the Tour de France the Tour de Cars & Copters. As for the cars & motorbikes on the road during the race, personally, I think riders should be unsupported when riding the stages. Break down & you're out. Mechanics etc. can fix stuff at the end of each stage. It's a circus out there...

I accept that fat tyres give a more comfortable ride overall, but there's no doubt that they breed complacency & de-skill riders to some degree. They'll roll over more or less anything - it's a different kind of riding. I don't mind narrow tyres & quick & speedy manoeuvres or even twitchy handling.

I can ride all day long on this bike. It just cruises. For all the talk of wide tyres being more comfortable etc., the 25s on this just mean it's riding like the old days: watching the road, swerving the potholes & access covers, picking your line. Sweeping around bends. It's real, active riding.

He's become my favourite Japanese cycling YTer. Him & 153cmのsurly midnight special. Riding to Chichibu from the eastern side of Tokyo on a Fuji Ballad without all terrain tyres is no joke. He has all the enthusiasm of a newbie & it's great to see. He needs better shoes for the rain & gravel, though!
