Loitering with good intent in Aotearoa NZ. I like big books and I cannot lie (actually, any kind is fine). I say very little here. Pics are mine & not AI. Hope you're well.

Oh, come to think of it, I have two mantlepieces, and Jo and Anna's prints are mates on that one too.
A picture of a mantlepiece with an etching plate of a landscape scene of rolling hills (made by my grandmother), a Jo Cox bookmark, a hand printed card of a kina shell, a paper flower, a black hand sculpture and an interesting stone.

Jo's work is wonderful! I treasure the cat of hers I have, as well as the cards a colleague makes - thanks for my mantlepiece delights, printers!
A print of a cat by Jo Cox rests on a metal sign from a Mergenthaler linotype machine, which sits next to a card of a plant in black against a yellow disc which may or may not be the sun. The card is made by Anna Petersen in Ōtepoti Dunedin, NZ.

This is why it takes me ages to do the vacuuming. He reminded me of 2 shows I was lucky to see as a kid - Marcel Marceau and Victor Borge. A certain kind of warmth along with amazing skills. Lovely, thanks.

Everything Will Swallow You by Tom Cox. It's funny, warm, nicely weird, magical. (It got me back into reading too. No shame about the slump - swings and roundabouts, innit?)

Agree. You can never even have too many copies of _this particular book_. My 3rd copy arrived today (a signed one 'for good', a gift for a friend, and now a loaner copy). It's SO good - I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I saw this and thought of EWSY because, now that it's out in the world (and I'm so SO glad it is), it's like a shortcut to finding people you vibe with, the positive side of "the web". It's good connections all the way down. Thanks Tom. youtube.com/shorts/yVT7D...

It's okay, Jorts, we've all been there (not necessarily the back of the fridge, but the being a little shit bit).
An orange cat, Morrie, who is sometimes a complete little shit, innocently snoozes with his legs bundled up in front of him as if he'd never even dream of getting stuck behind the piano.

Um, I think PREFU is like SNAFU (Situation normal: all f'd up) or JANFU (Joint Army-Navy f-up), but pre-that. It's the pretendy bit before we find out how much they REALLY f'd up.

It reminds me of an Irish mate, a Corkman, recounting how an English guy had said to him once, poshly & with great disdain, "We used to RULE you people, you know". The Irish guy is still alive and well but I'm not so sure about the English one.

Cripes, intense. But crumple not: most likely Danny will have a similar experience to us: un-put-downable. Thanks for the perfect Sunday, Tom. We are all Amanda (plus cats, minus the box of wine. On this occasion). I was cry-laughing by page 3.
A person holds up a copy of Curious Events Lately Occurring in this Neighbourhood, freshly enjoyed, while Morrie the orange cat sits on her shoulder, showing great interest in the book.

Definitely take your pump and puncture repair kit if either of these is your bicycle.
Sorry for no credit but photographer unknown. The picture shows an aquacycle, which is like a tricycle with giant plastic wheels that goes on water, and a run-of-the-mill swan-shaped peddleboat. At some picturesque locations in New Zealand, like Wānaka, you can rent these things and scare the bejesus out of yourself imagining how deep the lake is. Fun though.

Gosh though Dan, there might be stairs to get on and off the plane as well. Do you think you'll be alright? I was checking the distance to Singapore once and it suggested I kayak, so I guess that's always an option. (Welcome, btw, and I hope you have a great visit.)

Someone on here suggested an Auckland get-together for TC fans and I bet it'd be a hoot, but I can't go cos I checked Google Maps and apparently there might be...stairs? (Charitable of Google to suggest I could bike there in 4 days though. They clearly don't know me.)
A screenshot of Google Maps showing the 1633km route from Ōtepoti Dunedin to Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland in Aotearoa NZ. It cites the main challenges as "steep hills" and "stairs", despite Cook Strait between the North and South Islands being very cold, deep and swift. We kind of have ferries for that but they break down and bump into things a bit. And they also have lots of stairs.

Most of the time, yes, he's delightful, but I had this confusing interaction the other day where...well, I know I should refer to the Operator's Manual & really the problem lies with me and lax discipline, but he just wouldn't answer for his actions. No accountability.
