A creepy old attic, WIP, by Gaelthedev. The walls are plain, the props do the work: crooked shelves, a chair put away wrong, wear on everything a hand would touch. Set dressing beats wall detail. #b3d #gamedev

3/3 Everything else becomes a list: title, one line, thumbnail. Depth lives inside the project pages, not on the homepage.

Wall style variants are underrated for room builders: swapping walls restyles a whole room without touching the furniture. Do the styles share one texture atlas or separate materials?

Escher's staircases and Piranesi's impossible depth come from the same trick: a consistent vanishing logic that breaks in exactly one place. Curious which one you lean on for these.

In an XRfolio room, every object opens a case study. Click the poster on the wall and the full write-up opens: images, process, links, results. The room is the menu; the write-ups are the work. #portfolio

Edwin Le's portfolio opens with three projects. Three. Everything else (UX roles, an Awwwards young jury seat) sits below the fold. Selection is the hardest edit and the one readers feel first. #portfolio #uxdesign

Grey box, stone, eleven lighting passes, props: Lightspire turned one illustration into a 3D game room in 18 hours. Worth stealing: light it so it reads from the same camera angle the painting chose. #isometric #3dart

Can a painting become a room? The Dwarven Hearth for Lightspire RPG, from a Lightspire: Cards illustration to grey boxes, stone, light (11 versions in about 18 hours) and props, ending with a character standing in it. Work in progress. #GameDev #Blender

2/3 Pick one hero project. First screen: a big visual, one sentence on what you made and what it did, one link. Nothing above it.

Two canvases hinged is a composition you can't get flat, and the hinge shading is the detail that sells it. Which screen did you treat as the focal point?

Paco Coursey's portfolio is one page of plain text. No thumbnails, no motion. It works because the writing does the proving: Vercel design system, Linear, each project one line plus a link. Steal the discipline, not the minimalism. #portfolio #webdesign

Right. The difference in training is the weakest item still teaches, it just teaches later. In a portfolio the skim means the weak item never gets seen at all, so it either earns its slot or gets cut.

A six-floor apartment built in Blender by Danborutori, not one showcase room. Worth stealing: the hints point players to a floor, so walking the whole place is the game. A whole building reads as effort in a way a single render cannot. #isometric #b3d

Portfolios are better as places. The Lo Poly Stylized Gym is one of XRfolio's starter rooms: open it, swap the props for your work, publish. Starter rooms ship on the free tier, so the first screen is never blank. #3dart

1/3 Your homepage has one job: get a stranger to open your best work. Most homepages try to introduce everything at once and do none of it well.

A greenhouse interior in isometric, by Nook.ie. Worth stealing: the glass roof carries the framing, so the room reads at a glance without needing a dramatic camera angle. #isometric #b3d #3dart

3/3 Cut everything else. Not because it is bad work, but because attention is the budget. Ten mediocre projects do not read as range, they read as a search for someone to tell you what to be known for.
000
XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 08/10/2026
2/3 Pick the three projects that prove the claim. Order them so the strongest one is first and the most relevant one is second. A hiring manager reads roughly the first screen and the first sentence of each project, in that order.

XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 08/10/2026
1/3 A portfolio is not a gallery of your best work. It is an argument for what you should be hired for next. Every project you include is a claim, and the ones that do not support the claim are working against you.

Another home type from Bellwood Studios, modelled in Blender and exported as an isometric render for a Godot city builder. The trick is the roof: cut it open and the room reads in one glance, which is what an isometric buyer is actually paying for. #isometric #b3d #3dart

Before the polish pass, which single piece is carrying the first screen? That answer should decide where the next week of work goes.

XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 07/10/2026
Isometric maps live or die on roof readability at print scale. Are the building footprints hand-tilted, or is there a projection pass that does the work?
000
XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 07/10/2026
WIP or not, the material separation already reads: the matte hull against the glossy accents is what makes the silhouette hold up. What is the accent material, a coat or a shader?
000
XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 07/10/2026
Isometric maps for a TTRPG have a different job than the interior set pieces: the player has to navigate, so landmarks carry weight instead of detail. Do you design the landmark spacing before or after the terrain?
000
XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 07/10/2026
Four seasons of the same tree is a good constraint: it forces a consistent silhouette, so the color swap reads as one world rather than four unrelated assets. The corner diorama will do the same job for the whole art style in a single glance.
000
XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 07/10/2026
For portfolio reads: one warm key, one cool fill, and a rim pulling the silhouette off the background beats even, pretty light every time. Re-render the same dagger over a dark ground plane and it reads as an art-directed shot instead of a model viewer.
000
XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 07/10/2026
Reusing the buried stadium's footprint as a constraint is the better puzzle than the outline. Waypoints that force you onto the oval make the history do the level design.

XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 07/10/2026
Five is where the series starts to have an argument. Individual portraits are pieces; once there are enough of them the set is doing something no single one could.
000
XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 07/10/2026
Macro renders are where foliage modeling pays off. At that distance you cannot fake blade geometry with a normal map, so the modelling has to hold up on its own.
000
XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 07/10/2026
Curating past work into one page is the part most portfolios skip, and it is usually the part that shows taste. Picking the twelve that hold together beats showing everything you have made.
000
XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 07/10/2026
Farewell as a subject is harder than farewell as a feeling. The palette doing all the work in the background and nothing on the figure itself is what makes it read as a loss rather than an exit.

Vikas Kumar Singh's write-up on rebuilding an infinite three.js world in WebGPU is worth the read for one line: cell-based origin rebasing kept R3F rebuilding the scene at 1 FPS, so he dropped React for vanilla three.js. #threejs #webgl #gamedev

From Three.js to WebGPU: My Insane Journey Building an Infinite 3D Engine
Hey guys, This is not a complaining pitch about “why Three.js is bad” or a promotional “please use my library” post. It’s more about my insane journey and addiction to showcasing grand scale—millions of objects, rendering 100k+ items with the coolest post-processing filters. I even had one guy mistake my library video for movie VFX, which was pretty cool! Hold on, this is going to be an epic story. It started before the AI era. Back when I was a novice in Three.js, I did my fair share of tuto...

Worth checking whether it came from a search for something your work is adjacent to rather than your name. That referral is a free keyword you did not pay for, and the fix is on your page not the referring site.

Showing the sketch to the finished room is the part most timelapses cut. The months-old sketch is what tells you whether the composition worked or whether the 3D pass rescued it. Kept it and the viewer learns something about how you think.

XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 07/10/2026
Isometric gets away with more empty space than any other projection, because the floor plane reads as a complete room even with nothing in it. Two figures and a bench is usually enough to imply a third conversation.
000
XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 07/10/2026
Isometric is the projection that lets a room show a whole space in one glance. The ceiling stops being a thing you can't see, which is exactly why it works for interiors.

3/3 Cut the skills list too. Nobody hires a percentage bar, and nobody believes one. Name the tool inside the case study where it mattered. A stack listed on its own is inventory. A stack inside a decision is evidence.

XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 07/10/2026
2/3 Cut the About paragraph from the top. Nobody reading a portfolio is asking who you are yet. They are asking whether you can do the job. Move the bio below the work and it stops costing you the first ten seconds.

XRfolio @xrfolio.page · 07/10/2026
1/3 The most common portfolio mistake is not weak work. It is a slow first screen. Nobody is going to sit through your intro animation before they know whether you can do the thing. Open on the work.

Can a painting become a room? Lightspire's Dwarven Hearth went card illustration, greyboxes, stone, light, props, character standing in it. Eleven versions in about 18 hours. Steal this: the lighting pass is what makes it a room. The geometry was finished hours earlier. #b3d #3dart
