Finally close to the midpoint of Dawntrail 7.0! Been taking my time with the story and also doing side stuff in FFXIV. Despite the burnout I've had from 2023, it's been a nice reminder of why I really enjoy FFXIV. ❤️ Now if I can just get the motivation to fix up my cosplay... Credits in next post!

This, plus housing issues...a few weeks before Fanfest 2023, my basement had some water damage that ended up growing mold. AND it was a nightmare to get my insurance to pay for a large portion of it. Horror photos attached in case if no one has seen this.

Hand sewing the mesh-embroidered panels onto the bodice. Had to embroider the design onto a different fabric and hand sew it onto the mesh because of some issues I ran into. Almost there!

Redid the fabric soup (dye) because: 1) I decided to use organza for the front/side panels instead 2) The original color of my bodysuit I made a couple of years ago was too dark for my liking. 🙃

Base construction mostly finished for the bodice, pointed bolero/capelet, and a detachable skirt (with bows in the back). Finished gloves and the pink ruffle asymmetric skirt are on the floor. I sewed the pink ruffles on after this was taken, no updated pic yet!

One of the (almost finished) painted pauldrons. It needs probably one more coat and a little bit of weathering. Not the smoothest job I've ever done, but I'll take it given how much time I've had.

With a lot of the larger foam pieces, I'm covering them in silver vinyl fabric. I saw a technique where cording was used instead of foam to mimic some of the bevels, so I figured I'd try it. Covering foam w/fabric can be more forgiving because it hides a lot of the details.

Finished pauldron construction! This is all out of foam, Flexi Filler (semi-dried and I had to salvage it as much as I could 🤡), and foam bevels. Tedious process.

Sorry, I've been behind on updating this due to life/Japan/getting engaged/job stuff but: I ended up recreating the bodice for a few reasons (mainly b/c it was giving me 🐪🦶, and some things were constructed poorly) once we came back from Japan. Fits a WHOLE lot better.

Working on the lining. Still need to attach the back pieces, finish clipping and pressing some seams, and repeat this whole process for the outer fabric too...and THEN the real fun starts there. 🫠

Made a bunny suit mockup because that's the closest thing I could come up with, with the fabric type I'm using (not a leotard because it's dupioni and not stretchy). And then I made alterations and had no idea what I was doing at first. 🤪 ...But now the second mockup is coming altogether. Wtf me.

Started painting the tiara tonight on stream after doing some sanding on the resin coating. Not bad for a couple of coats of paint! Maybe I'll paint it more on stream next week. But I still gotta cast the gems though...soon? 🫠

Also started working on the shrug/pointed shoulder capelet thingy. Using an existing pattern and modifying it. I chopped off the majority of the pattern in the muslin fabric, but I didn't chop off nearly as enough...💀 Still need to add the collar and the other side of the capelet though.

Started making the bows for the back while waiting for a pattern to come in. It looks like some residual Heat N Bond from a previous project got stuck onto my iron/board and onto this fabric. I haven't been able to remove the Heat N Bond though, so I'll have to remake one (later on, low priority). 🫠

Tl;dr, adding resin to tiara adds weight (expected) but should make it sturdy. Will do light sanding so the surface is smooth and I can paint it after. Taped neodymium magnets down in this clip and used a magnetic headband from a diff cosplay to see how it would hold! Model by @dangerousladies.ca!
