I suppose that he was just supposed to thrown away the role of Benjamin Chudnofsky in The Green Hornet? Also, he'd just played Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds two years before; maybe he wouldn't want to stack his Nazi roles. He needed to throw a sword Jew or something in there.
