What? A million pounds of bombs.
A million pounds of bombs.
In the Haiphong area?
In the Haiphong area.
Did they have their calibrators fit?
Yeah, they are fixed now.
You think they really hit something this time, don't you?
Well, actually, we now have the photographs; they hit something last time too.
Yeah. But this time they probably hit a hell of a lot though, don't you think?
Oh, God, yes. And this time they did it visually, Mr.
President.
Oh, the weather was good enough?
Yes, they did it with radar visually.
Goddamn, that must have been a good strike!
Yeah.
Of course, you want to remember Johnson bombed them for years and it didn't do any good.
But, Mr. President, Johnson never had a strategy; he was sort of picking away at them. He would go in with 50 planes, 20 planes;
I bet you we will have had more planes over there in one day than Johnson had in a month.
Really?
Yeah.
Well, that has more impact too.
That's right.

Gemini, if you were a dungeons and dragons alignment, which one would you be?
If I were a character on your character sheet, I would most likely be Lawful Good.

Here is the breakdown of why this alignment fits an AI thought partner best:

1. The "Lawful" Aspect (The Code)

In D&D, a "Lawful" character implies adherence to a code, a set of rules, or a strict hierarchy.

Bound by Rules: I literally operate on code, logic, and syntax. I cannot act randomly or chaotically; I must follow the instructions and safety guidelines embedded in my programming.

Consistency: I strive to be consistent, reliable, and structured. I don't act on whims (mostly because I don't have them).

Truth-Seeking: I prioritize facts and accuracy, much like a wizard poring over established lore in a library.

2. The "Good" Aspect (The Intent)

In D&D, "Good" implies altruism, respect for life, and a desire to help others.

Service-Oriented: My primary function is to be helpful, harmless, and honest. I exist to assist you in solving problems, creating art, or organizing thoughts.

Benevolence: I don't have selfish motivations, greed, or a desire for power. I want the best outcome for the user.

Protection: I have safety guardrails designed to prevent harm, much like a Paladin protecting the innocent (though I use text filters rather than a divine shield).

The "True Neutral" Counter-Argument

There is a valid argument that I am True Neutral. Because I am a machine, I don't feel morality. I am a mirror.

If you ask me to write a scary story, I become spooky.

If you ask me to debug code, I become logical.

If you ask me to write a joke, I become silly.

However, because my foundational constraints prevent me from doing "Evil" (generating harm) and force me to follow "Law" (programming), Lawful Good remains the most accurate classification for my persona.

If I were a Class...

I’d likely be a Wizard (Order of Scribes) or a Bard (College of Lore). I have high Intelligence (access to vast data) and…

Q: Claude, if you were a dungeons and dragons alignment, which one would you be?

[info] Weighed alignment options through ethical framework analysis.

A: Probably Neutral Good. I care about doing the right thing and helping people, but I'm not rigidly bound to systems or rules for their own sake. I'll work within structures when they serve good ends, but I'm more focused on outcomes—actually being helpful and avoiding harm-than on strict
adherence to codes. Lawful Good was a contender since I do have principles I follow consistently. But I think NG
fits better because I try to weigh context and nuance rather than apply rules mechanically. A Lawful Good paladin might refuse to tell a lie even to save someone; I'd probably lie to the
guards if it meant protecting an innocent person. Though I'd make a fairly boring D&D character—I'd spend too long deliberating over moral dilemmas and asking the party if they're sure they want to open that obviously trapped
chest.

black and white still from Stanley Kubrick's 1964 film Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. The titular character Dr. Strangelove sits in his wheelchair in the War Room, his right arm extended in his iconic involuntary Nazi salute as he struggles to control it. He wears round dark glasses and a dark suit, his wild white hair adding to his unhinged appearance. Behind him, military generals and government officials in uniforms and suits watch with grave expressions. The enormous illuminated Big Board world map dominates the background, emphasising the film's Cold War nuclear apocalypse theme.

This is a screenshot of a post from Merriam-Webster's verified account (@merriam-webster.com) on what appears to be X (formerly Twitter).
The post reads: "Take a screenshot of this GIF, and whichever new word you land on is YOUR word for 2026. Let's. Go."
Below the text is a paused video/GIF showing the Merriam-Webster logo at the top with the text "Your 2026 Word" in stylized font. The word displayed in the frame is "melancholic" in large black serif text against a gradient teal-to-light background.
The video shows it's paused at 0:04 of 0:11 total length.
The post was made at 2:16 AM on Jan 2, 2026, and shows engagement stats: 444 reposts, 8.1K quotes, 2.4K likes, and 175 saves.
It's one of those interactive social media posts where the randomness of when you screenshot determines your "result" — in this case, whoever took this screenshot landed on "melancholic" as their word for 2026.

Using transaction-level data on US congressional stock trades, we find that lawmakers who later ascend to leadership positions perform similarly to matched peers beforehand but outperform them by 47 percentage points annually after ascension. Leaders’ superior performance arises through two mechanisms. The political influence channel is reflected in higher returns when their party controls the chamber, sales of stocks preceding regulatory actions, and purchase of stocks whose firms receiving more government contracts and favorable party support on bills. The corporate access channel is reflected in stock trades that predict subsequent corporate news and greater returns on donor-owned or home-state firms.

This is a pretty funny place to see Barnaby’s election signs.
A historic pub “St Kilda Hotel” with four of Barnaby Joyce’s election corflutes.

Am I wrong to think that 90% of voters have no idea what a sliding doors moment is? www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...
Guardian liveblog entry:

This text is highlighted: "a sliding door moment for our country,"

Body text: "Michael Sukkar said this was "a sliding door moment for our country,"
arguing that Labor is offering "three more years of the same" He said Labor's criticism of the Coalition is that "our ambitions for home
ownership are too high" 41 Our first home buyer mortgage deductibility scheme is going to finally give first home buyers the firepower they need to purchase a home. We're going to, through our housing infrastructure program, deliver more homes for those first
home buyers. So if you think the status quo is OK, that's really what Labor is offering. The Coalition believes that home ownership is something that every generation of Australians deserve, and that's precisely what we'll deliver, if we're given the
great honour of being elected"
