AI-assisted development

This project was developed in collaboration with an AI assistant.

The AI handled a large part of the technical implementation: analysing the game's code, writing reverse-engineering and diagnostic tools, implementing patches, testing hypotheses and automating repetitive checks.

(LOUD DIARRHEA NOISES) directed the project, deciding what to investigate, proposing and discarding approaches, interpreting results, identifying problems, choosing which solutions to pursue, testing the builds and validating the final behavior.

The distinction matters: the AI did a great deal of the programming work, but the project itself was not produced by asking for a finished hack and accepting the first result. It was an iterative process of investigation, implementation, testing, failure, correction and regression testing.

Please keep submitting issues and starting discussions. If you'd like to take on some work, comment on the relevant issue first. I read everything, keep an eye on the feed, and act on anything pressing when I can.

I don't want the open source project to be a second-class citizen. I value every contribution, and I want to be much faster at acknowledging and reviewing them. As Fluxer grows, I hope I won't remain the only person responsible for all of this. For now, I can't turn myself into a team of 30 people.

Thanks for sticking with me while I work through it.

Not every post is a personal, hand-written invitation to debate. You can disagree with me, that's fine. People do it all the time. But this is trying to pull me into an argument and I'm not interested (well, I wasn't, until they did this). Some people can't get over getting told "you're a loser"

I removed this quote from another post, but note the argument here: "the tools are just too useful, too good at what they do" Consider that about anything *but* code. Would you still say that AI output is "good enough" that we can start ignoring by-human art, writing, music, videos, research?
For code, this policy is already very rapidly approaching a time when it is not only unenforceable by any reasonable measure, but also an absurd thing to expect of people. At a certain point, the tools just become too useful, too actually-good at what they do. That point is already in the past.

I could argue here about externalities and how awful the AI corporations are with managing and running their own services/products, but differentiating those from open or even locally-run agents/models doesn't seem to interest this person, so clearly that's not the thing they care about

I can ask Claude Code to figure something out about a gigantic, undocumented codebase going off nothing but a natural language description of user experience, and it just does it, and will probably explain it quite well and offer a solution. Anthropic is also a terrible company. These facts coexist.

You don't solve that second fact by pretending the first is false. When something is useful enough, especially in a competitive environment, people will use it. The regulation needs to change, but "no LLMs ever" is solving the wrong problem AND a non-starter given how useful the tech has become.

no, that's exactly *why* we don't like it! we don't *want* people forced to a single viable option! something has to be done *now* before we're *all* forced to use it
Yes, this is one of the things that many anti-CloudFlare folks often don't seem to get - there's no one else out there that does what they do.

They're a dogshit company led by dogshit people, but they will eat a giant DDoS and laugh about it for free while everyone else will charge you hundreds of dollars a month if they can even successfully mitigate it.

Is it sustainable? Probably not, but for the time being they're basically it and that sucks.

This is a chart I need to add to the blog post soon: our Cloudflare 30-day history chart. It makes it pretty clear what "normal traffic" looks like, versus days where we have our special guest visiting, and the sheer scale of junk they throw at us.
cloudflare web traffic, requests through cloudflare graph. most of the days are around 5-7M, but at least 7 of them have spikes ranging from 20 to 80 or 100M

X ΘΔ (Giant Tyrant Overlord) @xkeeper.net · 24/09/2026
Another one: why would we pay for extra capacity? Our server sits around 33% of capacity for the vast majority of the time. *Normal* LLM requests really aren't that much of a contributor that we have to ban them — I just hate LLMs. (nevermind that it's 4 *cores*, not threads)
Today I learned that The Cutting Room Floor runs on just four threads and 8 GB of RAM. No wonder why do they need to permaban any LLM user agents.cpu graph of our linode. note that our CPU cap is 400% (4 CPUs x 100%), so 200% CPU usage means "50%"

For example, it's very easy to say this in hindsight — if I knew it would last for twelve and a half days, obviously I would've moved sooner. But recall that the advice we were given *by our host* was to wait it out, and after two days (one of which was spent thinking it was over!) we did move.
This is a lot of words (and actions) for them to reach the conclusion that yes, they do have to sign up for Cloudflare – which solves it immediately.

I don't *like* it as a solution but I don't have another one. And they could have done it in the first minute.

your chat program will also be your screen sharing program which will also be your self-hosted threads and forums platform. please don't ask about how any of this has worked in the platform we're copying (poorly) or who likes it (nobody), but by god we're going to step on every rake
#6: Threads, forums, and publishing to the web

Fluxer will support threads and forums. Forum channels will also have an optional public web mode. If a community turns it on, anyone can read those posts without an account, find them through search engines, archive them, and follow them with RSS or Atom feeds. Communities choose what to publish, and private chats stay private.

(here's the particular bit about @fastly.com , because the way this whole thing shook out still just. seriously? seriously???)
We’ll skip ahead in the timeline momentarily to their response (Aug 31, 11:17 AM), as Fastly exits the story afterwards:

    Hello X,

Thank you for your patience while I worked with internal teams on finding the cause here.

We were able to see the cause of the account being turned down was marked as Excessive Bandwidth Usage, and was disabled for bandwidth abuse. This appears to be because the account was a Dev account, and those are generally used for testing functionality or creating a POC, and not fielding that volume of bandwidth.

I’ll be honest: in the process of writing this (currently 9/23), I had to go check the archives to double-check that the instructions said, quote,

Under active attack? Create a free account to route your traffic through Fastly’s network in minutes for immediate DDoS mitigation.

What they don’t tell you is that the “immediate DDoS mitigation” is also measured in minutes (a bit less than 900). At least for us.

checking in on Fluxer (I'm still not going to use it). They did a big "v2" change a while ago that changed the LLM policy. what strikes me as extremely strange is the focus on not having "write access". this code of conduct is only for normal people, not maintainers. are they held to the same?
LLM Usage Policy
Abstract

This document defines how a person without write access to this repository may use a large language model (LLM) when preparing a contribution.

An LLM may assist a contributor privately with learning, investigation, planning and review. It MUST NOT author any part of a submission.3. Scope

This policy applies to every person who does not have write access to this repository.

It applies to all content that such a person provides to the maintainers or publishes through the repository, including...
