That's a classy steelbook.

To be fair, their launcher is so bad that it'd be hard for vibe coding to make it worse.

Thanks for letting me know what I already know very well.

I don't know why we are even discussing. I just wanted to originally point out AI sucks at the core programming-related activity, and now we're discussing... what, and why? We're not even in any great disagreement as far as I can see, but this is a terrible forum to have nuanced discussion in.

I don't make the decisions where I work, and the push for AI is notable. If I did make the decisions, I guess I would currently advocate for AI use in the areas it's good at, but I don't know if there's any useful data on how much effect AI is having on efficiency, so it's hard to say.

I don't use AI in coding outside work precisely because it's fundamentally unreliable, which often makes it a pain to work with. I suspect AI does have some efficiency benefits, but I enjoy my job less than I did before AI because of the flaws.

We clearly have a different understanding of what vibe coding is. If we did vibe coding as I understand it, our efficiency (and bugs) would probably be through the roof, because we wouldn't understand the code - but we do, because we review it carefully. That takes a lot of time.

Those supportive actions by AI are useful, but the thing where AI could help the most is the one where it's the least useful, sometimes straight up being slower than writing the code yourself. You just never know if it's better to do it yourself before trying it with AI.

We don't do vibe coding and instead carefully review all AI-generated code, which gets really tedious when every single thing could be a critical mistake or cause maintenance issues in the future. Refactoring is also costly due to the trickiness of automated tests, so we'd rather get things right.

Pardon me if I'm missing your point entirely, because I don't see a smokescreen. I just wish that AI was better at actually writing functional code, because the codebase I work with has a lot of history that makes automated tests tricky, which highlights the importance of functional code.

Xiyng @xiyng.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Everything else is there to support the actual functional code that does what you're out there to do, and the most important thing is the one AI sucks at. Obviously all that other stuff is important too, and AI being good at it is very helpful, but AI still misses the most important mark.

Or maybe some of the models are actually good, I don't know. Some of the models doing well in tests are definitely not good though, or maybe the languages I've used them with are not good with the models. Hasn't made my job more enjoyable overall, that much I can tell.

So far it's felt like it's quite useful for everything in programming except actual code. It's great for automated tests, planning, exploring etc., but actual code in codebase that's not small? Really dumb decisions everywhere, or at least it was that way maybe a month or two ago.

A Discord ID is a number, not your username. It sounds like some sensitive stuff, including usernames, was leaked/hacked though.

Like... why? If I use the time filter, it's a for a reason. If I didn't want the time filter, I simply wouldn't use it.

Xiyng @xiyng.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Most recently they changed search filters: When you search for something and filter it by time, if there's few enough results, YouTube just randomly decides to fill in videos outside the time range. If you still manage to scroll through all the videos, you'll run into an endless amount of Shorts.

I'd love to support YouTube - if only every single update didn't make it worse and hadn't done so for a REALLY long time, and if they actually gave me what I want instead of trying to push me what they want me to want.

I think I heard an interview on radio yesterday. The interviewee's pronunciation sounded very, very German to me, but at the same time, he wasn't speaking German, it was excellent English instead. Getting kind of the same vibe from those town names.

Hopefully GOG, but I'll settle for Steam if necessary. Unfortunately my backlog is gigantic, so it'll probably be more like 5 years than 5 days for me, but it's possible I have to give in at least a bit sooner if the game's just too good.

Both at the same time - in theory. In practice, spaces work out better. Sadly I have too many projects I care about more than programming games to actually play any programming games. Those projects are also about as finished as my Steam backlog, not to mention all the other game backlogs...

It's at least 95% provocation/trolling/shitposting here. You'd know that if you'd been following the account for long.

Nowadays, I'd blurt out "shitposter" in a heartbeat, then maybe ponder for a while if that's really elaborate enough - and it's probably not. Of course the whole premise is wrong, because no one's going to ask me that.

It's been a while since we had cats, but I think that was exactly the reason we didn't like the grates - and didn't use scoopers with them. We simply had a small playground shovel, and we were happy enough with it (well, as much as you can, cleaning those litter boxes).

I'm not sure how helpful it is, but it does seem like a good improvement. A good next step would be allowing navigating to a specific post in a thread by its number.

The image is of a four panel comic.
The title above the first two panels reads, "Dog Toys".
The first panel shows Sarah, the protagonist, holding a bone shaped dog toy. She says, "Look!"
The second panel shows a dog wagging its tail. There is a speech bubble leading back to Sarah saying "It squeaks!"
The title above the last two panels reads, "Cat Toys".
In panel three we see Sarah again. She says "Come, child."
Panel four shows a cat raising its paws in glee. We see Sarah's hands holding cat nip. We see a speech bubble leading back to Sarah saying "It is time to do drugs".

Actually yes, every day. Who am I kidding. No, and I'm not sure if I want to hear what led to this scenario. (Actually I do, because the background is a bit hard to see.)

I swear my day needs to have 27 hours to work out in the long term. 24 hours kind of works if I sleep way too little, and if I sleep enough, the day ends up feeling way too short.
