Mitochondria is not just the powerhouse of the cell! It can be used as focal point to send my favorite protein (formins) to study its previously uncovered function! 😎

And special thanks to the most valuable hero of our project(s), PeriPeriHuan The Parijat @bparijat.bsky.social Ps. He's the one on the right.

It's been a blast having a go at this decade-old problem in actin field with Pekka and team. But here's a picture of the first- and last-author. We might look the same, but we do different things. Just like formin vs. VASP. hehe
Like all aspiring PhD students, I strive to look and dress like my advisor.

Ultimately, our study sheds light upon two longstanding questions in the field. (1) How are different actin filament populations getting assembled in cells, and (2) what makes these two classes of actin polymerases, formin and Ena/VASP, different from the other in cells!

Interestingly, VASP, another class of #actin polymerase does the opposite! It specifically assembles α-actinin actin filaments! Check out the manuscript for more details!

What happens if you were to send a formin elsewhere outside of its usual activity location (e.g. #mitochondria)? Would the mitochondrial-targeted formin DAAM1 generate tropomyosin-actin filaments? Or α-actinin crosslinked bundles?

Here's my PhD work on the assembly of different focal adhesions-associated #actin filament populations by specific actin polymerases, formin vs. VASP! Check out how we exploited the #mitochondria to address the decade-old problem about formin-tropomyosin! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Presenting a talk the ASCB @ascbiology.bsky.social #CellBio2025 meant a lot to me, a new guy in the field. Thanks to everyone whom came for the session, and special thanks to the ones whom dropped me kind encouragements before my talk! 😊
I thanked my cat and presented some data.

Hey everyone and fellow #actin people! Here's a preview video for my upcoming talk at #cellbio2025 @ascbiology.bsky.social next Wednesday at 10am! Because it's gonna happen on the last day, so I promise to be a little funny, and I might even throw in a song and dance! And some nice data too.

Realized this morning that my submission got selected for Yale's Beauty in Science 2025 exhibition! Seeing the live-assembly of filopodia projections by formin mDia3 in mast cells got me really stoked back then! #FluorescenceFriday
Time projection images of mast cells (RBL-2H3) expressing active mutant of formin mDia3, captured by TIRFM.The softcopy version of my submission!

Hi everyone, because it's my first time winning any contest, I ain't gonna lose this wave of opportunity to talk about it 👀. I got tweeted, but I feel the need to publicize this here too. I won the @ascbiology.bsky.social ASCB 2024 Image Contest! Thanks for selecting my entry!

It was a humbling experience being able to talk to people about our works at the ASCB. I’m flattered that I had plenty audience for me to keep going without break for ~6 h straight and going overtime! Thanks, everyone 🥹 #CellBio2024 @ascbiology.bsky.social

#FluorescenceFriday An old video of a cute mast cell (RBL-2H3) exhibiting cortical waves of active Cdc42 after getting treated with cytochalasin-D overnight. Sorry not sorry to kill #actin hehe. #TIRF 4 s per frame acquisition, 8 fps, 32× real time.

Look at these distinct clusters exhibited by N-WASP and Arp2/3 ! Is branched #actin polymerization the sole driving force for nucleating cortical actin waves? Cross-talks within the actin network can be messy, so how can we study such complexities? #CellBio2024 @ascbiology.bsky.social
